Guest guest
Silly question but hey I am silly anyway! Hello and just to say I am back! no I havent been anywhere nice just feeling pretty low, mixed up and confused but again no change there! still being treated for 'mental illness' OCD and an operation on a couple of foot bones. So not quite on my feet but feeling loads better and with the little Spring we are having it has a warming effect on my mood. So here's my question...Can you self medicate with thyroid hormones? can you buy them? if so are they expensive? is it dangerous? or are there any recommended herbal or natural supplements I could take to see if they make a distance to my wellbeing. Ok so a couple more questions than I led you to believe. Unfortunately my cravings for coco pops have taken their toll on my waistline or should I say lack of it. Lack of mobility due to operation and lack of motivation. Kim
Guest guest
Hi Kim I am a relative newcomer but I have ocd too, but it takes the form of obsessional thoughts. I am on seroxat for it. I just wondered if you were diagnosed hypothyroid? Have you had bloods done at all? I would start with blood tests at docs and seeing if he recommended any thyroid replacement. I know you might have a problem getting him to give you the tests because they think if you have any psychological symptoms you are having symptoms because of that IMHO. I am sure one of the other more experienced ladies will be along soon to answer you better than I can. God bless Dawn

He said that he found out from the hospital that is the only day the hospital does it and it needs to be done on quite fresh blood. He said they do them all together as it is an expensive test. He didn't say but perhaps they have to have a more specialised person to do it who only does it on a Wednesday, or it takes too much time and resources or specialised equipment to do individual ones.> > Well at least that explains why the labs are so reluctant to do it. Or are they one and the same thing lol Good for you sticking to your rights, it's your body and your health. You are entitled to change Drs, if the others claim to be full then the NHS will allocate you to one, changing is your right and they have to find you one. Guest guest
Awe Lillian I know what you mean though this is all added stress that you don't need. I don't know what their problems are, we are told by the NHS they want us to take an interest in our health care then when we do they don't like it. My Dr decided not to want me to record her today, but as it happened she was ok and took an interest in my condition, she even tested my chest . As Nick says they do have to allocate you to one but I know you won't like being passed around like that One saving grace is they are mostly as bad as each other so you may not even notice the difference between them, and you may even drop lucky and get a good one. I do hope you get lucky hon. lotsa luv Dawnx

Guest guest
Thanks Sheila. Concerning my now ex doctor, he believes that he knows it all and nobody else, not even the endo, is right but him. When I gave him some stuff I had printed out he refused to look at it, saying he knows everything about the thyroid and he feels very insulted that I should bring him this information. When you consider he also does not agree with the current endo you will see what I mean. He did agree with the endoprat I had before though lol. Guest guest
Then what a good turn he has done you Lilian - who would want to stay with such an idiot - would not even call him a doctor. Perhaps you should ask him why he is still just a general practitioner and not a consultant ?
