Guest guest
The abstract (below) talks about IGA deficiency in some CMT patients. I was recently tested for this & found out I have IGA deficiency. IGA helps protect the lining of your sinuses, mouth, ears, bladder and stomach. For people getting repeated infections they may want to consider testing their IGA subclasses. You have to test the IGA subclasses of which there are 4. If you just test total IGA levels it may not reveal a subclass deficiency. 1: Am J Clin Pathol 1979 Nov;72(5):800-6 Selective IgA deficiency in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. LL, Penn GM. A selective IgA deficiency was found in five of 15 random patients with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Immunologic studies of 32 members of the five families showed low IgA in 17 of the members, associated with elevated IgM in 20, without other significant immune abnormalities. The immunoglobulin pattern and the variability of symptoms in this familial peripheral neuropathy suggest that a thymic or gut-associated immune deficiency or both, may be causally related to the disease process. I will take it with me to my doctor tomorrow. I found it very interesting on your posts that you have been hospitalized for IV antibiotic therapy to knock out infections; I have had 2 hospitalizations recently for infections requiring IV antibiotics. Were your erythrocyte sedimentation rates (ESR) elevated? Do you know what your WBC's were? Any information would be helpful for me. Thank you so much.
