Guest guest
congratulations sandy. that is a real accomplishment. what are the reasons you have had to have a port replacement? i am still at the point i was -- have been maintaining. but not losing. the other day i had a weird experience . mid morning i felt really nauseated -- but all i had for breakfast that day was boost glucose free because it is hard for me to eat solids in the morning. i had the dry heaves -- there was nothing in there...and eventually i felt better. is that something to do with the band? Guest guest
Thanks, Diane - Almost all port replacements are due to accidental tubing puncture by the fill practitioner. In a few longer-term people, the tubing erodes at the junction between the port and the tubing and needs replacement. The " fix " is a port replacement, as it comes with about 3 inches of attached tubing. The procedure is not usually a big deal - local anesthetic plus IV light sedation in an outpatient surgical clinic. In my last case, however, I needed a general anesthesia and overnight in the hospital. The tubing had been cut so short in my original band surgery that it was tightly stretched. When my current excellent US surgeon cut the old tubing to put the new port in, the stretched tubing retracted into my abdominal cavity. That required a general anesthesia so he could enter the abdominal cavity to grab it, lengthen it, and then replace the port. More than I bargained for, but worked out fine. Got a good fill 2 weeks later, and my regained weight is coming off - seems slower than before and more effort involved, though. No way to tell if your nausea was related to the band. We have to remember that most things are NOT related to the band, and we will not always have clear answers as to what is going on anyway. I would not worry at all about a one-time occurrance.
