(For everyone - this is the description Paolo wrote for those new

footdrop boots - pictures in our 'files' area. This description will

also go there too ~ G)

NEW FOOTDROP BOOTS

These are boots provided with my device for footdrop ( " Aesthetic in-shoe

device for footdrop " ) made for me by an Italian craftsman (cobbler)

under my direction. So far the device had been used only with ready-made

sport or orthopaedic boots, such as Magnum Hi-tec, Hercules PW Minor &

Son and Ariat Heritage Lacer: these boots are very strong and correct

concomitant rotation very well, but they are hot in summer and, in

addition, are available in few colors, so women can have problems with

dresses.

Custom-made orthopaedic shoes made by pedorthists are generally

ugly, because they do not generally care of aesthetics. Therefore I have

decided to see if a cobbler, who normally repairs and also makes shoes

for normal people, was able to make custom-made

boots for me.

I chose the leather (natural calfskin) in a summer color and

collaborated with him in the choice of the sole (leather, wood and

rubber) in order to have the best functionality and a light (1.2 lbs)

boot. He also made the thin plastic device and put it between lining and

vamp behind the counter.

I have been wearing these boots for about a month and find them

comfortable and far less hot than the black Magnum boots I used before.

These boots cannot be sold through the web because every patient is

different: therefore a preliminary examination by a physiatrist is

necessary to decide which type of footwear is necessary and trials at

the cobbler's are necessary, at least for the first pair.

I sent the photos to show how nice a boot for severe footdrop (I have no

muscle below my knees) can be and to demonstrate that also cobblers (not

only orthopaedists and pedorthists) can make good boots for us.
