Guest guest
Hey Guys, I realize I haven't written for a while, but I thought I'd add in my .02 about P.E. For a refresher, I'm Liz, an 18 year old (about to be) college Freshman at the University of Kentucky, although I really live in NH. I have CMT and have had numerous operations on my feet. I also live to ride, which partially explains why I am going to U of K. My high school was fairly nontraditional, but we had many activities for gym, or wellness as we called it. You could play anything from basketball and football to ultimate frisbee, dance, and ping pong. I found that whatever I signed up for, our teachers made sure that everyone was included (for instance, if it was basketball, our teacher would make sure that I was passed the ball and that everyone backed up a little so I could play.) I have been diagnosed wtih CMT since I was five, and I have never been pulled out of P.E. However, my teachers were always extremely understanding and the activities were flexible. I realize that it changes from school to school, but I believe that everyone should be able to participate and be allowed to participate in P.E. in some level, whether it is watching, reffing, playing, or playing with modified rules. I also always knew when to push myself and when not too, for instance I played rec soccer and while I never played half back or ran around a ton, I was the best defender on my team... because I used my brains to outsmart the offenders instead of my brute strength or speed. But I have switched off the subject of PE. Liz
