Welcome to you and thank you for introducing yourself. I just

recently clarified the MD/CMT issue in a earlier post this week, but

since you just joined, I will repeat: CMT is a disease of atropy. In

atropy, muscles start out normal and healthy. The disease progression

brings on atropy. MD is a disease of dystropy, meaning the muscles were

never normal or healthy to begin with.

So yes, CMT is completely different from MD. And yet, the good people at

the MD Association include CMT as one of the many neuromuscular diseases

that they research and try to treat. Many persons with CMT seek and

receive help from MDA clinics.

I am so sorry you are having insurance difficulties. Does your State

have a 'major risk insurance pool' where people can be insured? If you

are in California, as I am, we have that; although there is now a 18

month waiting list.

I hope will help educate you on CMT disease so that you may have

the right information. Take a look at our 'bookmarks' section for CMT

information. You didn't say which type you have or when you were

diagnosed, so I am not sure how else I can help at this point. You did

say you were disabled, so if you receive disability, you should also be

receiving Medicare for your health insurance.

Again, welcome to the group.
