Guest guest
Dear a, My name is Liz Stitt. I am 18 years old and a freshman at the University of Kentucky, although my real home is New Hampshire. I have CMT. I was diagnosed at five, although symptoms showed up when I was three. I have had numerous operations, including triple arthrodesis. Triple Arthrodesis has done wonders for my feet and my balance. I had my TA when I was fourteen and in eigth grade. Before my surgery, I had to wear clunky AFOs and could not walk without them. I had been horse back riding in a regular program, but wore out quickly. I could literally ride for only twenty minutes and then had to get off. I could not even take my horse back to the barn and untack him I was so tired. I had my triple arthrodesis on both feet in the winter of 1997. I spent three months in casts and my doctor was very pleased with the way my surgery turned out. Very soon after my surgery, about six months total, so only three months out of casts, I started not wearing my braces all the time. Once in a while, I rode without my braces. The times when I didn't wear my braces became more and more frequent until like nine months later I just stopped wearing my braces and I haven't worn them since. Triple Arthrodesis provided me with freedom. Finally I am balanced and I can run and play with my friends some. I also have greater endurance and can do things like climb mountains, go on all day trail rides, show my horse, etc. I did not want to have this surgery because I did not want another surgery, but now that I have had it, I am truly glad that I did. If you have any questions or would just like to talk, please feel free to e-mail me, Liz
