Guest guest
Hi, my name is . I joined this group a couple of months ago, but didn't introduce myself at the time. I am 44 years old and have had CMT diagnosed since I was 32. I believe I started showing mild symptoms at about 10 years but no one realized what was happening. Just thought I was clumsy. I have a 19 year old son who I strongly suspect has CMT. He refuses to be diagnosed. He was a star athlete (basketball) until he started having problems with his legs. He broke the fibula in both legs within one year, for no apparent reason. He didn't sustain an injury, they just snapped as he was pivoting with the ball. His orthopedic dr suspects the culprit to be poor muscle support due to CMT. Sometimes I try to encourage him to get a diagnosis, but then other times I can understand why he doesn't want to - it can be depressing. He is trying to re-build his dreams and is going to college to become an orthopedic doctor. What do you think, do I need to push him to get a diagnosis, or just continue as we are. I really worry about how he is handling this sometimes. Thanks for any input.
