Hi ,

While all of us can probably sympathize with your son's fear of

knowing, he should realize that the type of work he chooses for

himself could be greatly affected by CMT. While I am sure many types

of doctors could function well with CMT, the fine motor skills

required by the hands of an orthopedic surgeon could be an

insurmountable obstacle. Also, as he gets a little older and starts

thinking about a family, I think he would owe it to himself, future

spouse and possibly even children (I'm sure your cringing about now!)

to know whether he has CMT.
