Guest guest
Hi , Glad I could help you with the last info. Now, as for tremors. Mine started about when I was 19/20 or so. That was a good decade after my intial CMT diagnosis. My tremors are only in my hands. My internist once told me my type of tremor with CMT is termed 'essential tremor'. Here is a link for some more information on that http://www.wemove.org/et_pat.html CMT with a tremor is also known as Roussey Levy CMT, after the doctors who first connected it. I tried several medications for my tremors, but THE ONLy ONE that works and makes them be under control is Elavil (amitriptyline). So taking that med, my tremors 'look absent'! Under periods of great stress my tremors CAN surge (rev up) so when this happens my dose of medication is altered until tremors have gone. I only started the Elavil when I was 35, so from the time of tremor onset to age 35, I tried to suppress them with valium - not a good idea for me. They were also worse at night and the heavy partying I did during those years just aggravated them, but at first I thought suppressed them. I can remember being about 25 and home for the holidays and my tremors were so bad, my mother had to cut up my food. Pretty awful. What also helps my tremors AND the rest of me too - is quality sleep. Naps are wonderful too when I squeeze them in. You might check our bookmarks section under " Tremors " also. Hope this helps. ~ Gretchen
