Guest guest
, I too have essential tremor in my hands. I can remember having it back in my late teens - I am now 44. I actually had a doctor tell me once that I was just an exceptionally " nervous person " . What a jerk. So, I decided to seek help from a nerologist 6 1/2 years ago. It was from that initial exam that my neuropathy was discovered, which led to nerve conduction studies, MRI's, etc. My neuropathy was eventually labled as Hereditary Motor and Sensory Neuropathy (CMT). All the weakness in my legs, balance problems, etc. I've had over the years suddenly had an explanation. I take 60 mg. of Propranolol (Inderal) long acting every day to control my tremors. I have been taking this medication for a couple of years now and have experienced no side effects. The medication works great most of the time. But, if I'm under stress, or get too overheated or too cold, the tremor is worse and can be difficult to control. In that case, sometimes I take an additional 40 mg. of fast acting Propranolol as an extra " hit " . However, it's rarely necessary to do so. I know that the Long Acting form is available in higher milligrams also. I haven't found it necessary to increase my dosage, though. Hope this info helps.
