This list-newbie has a question! What does AFO stand for - I'm assuming

it's a type of brace, but don't know for sure.

The braces that people are wearing... are they extremely noticeable?

Do you live close to the Ohio border within easy reach

of Greenville Ohio? I'm asking because there is a

great support group there that meets on the fourth

Thursday at 6:00 PM. Contact " Dot Cain "

Hi Fran, yes you are right, AFO stands for Ankle Foot Orthotics. Are

they noticeable ?, probably most are; I wear an inersole which is not

noticeable. Your Doctor would probably send you to a pedorthist or orthortist.

The pedorthist works on the foot, the orthortist does the foot and ankle.

I believe that AFO stands for Ankle-Foot Orthotics. Mine are a brace for the

stabilizing of my ankle and to compensate for my foot drop. They work really

well I'm not stumbling as much and my feet don't drag on the floor which was

another reason to have them made. I just needed to learn how to walk in them

because my ankle doesn't flex anymore.
