Guest guest
Toby, first a link all about EMG and Nerve Conductions. http://www.teleemg.com/ My first EMG was in 1967 or 68 - at a UCLA clinic, with technicians doing it and it was hell. I cried and screamed so loud my mother came in and got me to take me home. I was about 15. But my neurologist wanted it done, so we found a private EMG doc who did the next. Now remember, this is over 30 years ago. I just bit the bullet and went through with it. Then, fast forward to l997 or 98, my Internist wanted an Adult Baseline EMG done. I balked, he knew why. He suggested a doctor who specializies in Electrodiagnostic Medicine - as it turned out this was one of the same neuros I had at UCLA. He said the test has changed and evolved so much...well, truly it has. Yes, it hurts, but the needles on my most recent test were very fine (small) and the doc was very sympathetic to my cause. And after all this my EMG/NCV readings are within the normal range. I wish I knew what the results were when I was a teen - but no one ever told me and life went on. If I ever have it again, I will go back to this doc trained in electrodiagnostic medicine, even if I have to drive into L.A. for it. He is a good guy. I think now I am tough enough I could handle it if he did it. But really, I don't want another one! ~ Gretchen
