Guest guest
Well, it's been ages since I've been online and posted to this group. I see some familiar names from last fall and I need some advice. As some of you may remember I came into contact with some toxic chemicals during a remodeling project almost a year ago and suffered from a series of falls immediately following. I ended up doing some damage to my Sacro Iliac area, (2 doctors and my physical therapist agree it's dislocating and not staying in place due to ligaments being too stretched out from the repeat falls; and other doctors say that area can not dislocate and must be an arthritic condition or something else). I have been having adjustments done on the Si area at PT 2-3 times a week for the past 3 or 4 months now. I have tried an SI belt and exercises and nothing is stabilizing that area. I have tolerable days but also days where the lower back pain in unbearable. I also have numbness in my feet, legs, arms and hands and most of the doctors now agree it's likely to be damage from the chemicals because the MRIs, bone scans, and xrays show nothing to be causing the numbness. First off, has anyone ever had SI problems, and if so, what did you do???? I am having trouble finding a doctor who specializes in this area and is familiar with healing techniques. My PTs have never dealt with anything quite like this before and are at a loss. I have done research online but what I have found mainly recommends PT, braces, and exercises, all of which I have tried. I have seen a little bit on fusing the SI but have not spoken to anyone personally about this option. Having CMT on top of an injury like this is unreal because I can't strengthen the muscles and ligaments to hold it all together. Secondly, what can I do for the numbness? I have tired Neurontin and it did nothing for me. The doctor has put me on basically every anti-inflam drug there is along with trying Demerol for the pain but most of these do nothing other than make me sick to my stomach or drowsy. I am still trying to work, although the doctor has me down to 4 days no more than 7 hours a day. I sit during the day for the most part and this is becoming increasingly difficult. Walking any distance, standing for too long, or sitting for too long increase the pain in my lower back and make the numbness worse in my legs and feet. I am 32 and way too young for this! This has been going on for a year now and it has been the worst year of my life with CMT. (Diagnosed at age 5 and have never had these types of problems) I'm basically at my wit's end here. I don't know where to turn or what to do. Doctors in my area know very little about CMT or SI injuries. I'd love to hear some input and some positive words regarding this right about now. I am tired of the run around from doctors and tired of hurting and tired of just not really knowing anymore what to do to help my body. Thankfully I have a very loving, supportive and understanding husband. We just shared our first anniversary, and even though this past year has taken its' toll on very aspect of my life, my marriage is going great. Please post any responses or feel free to email me at sdgiftos@.... Thanks so much! :-)

I am not much help here, but I have a weak SI. I see a chiropractor and have been told that lower back and tummy exercises will help me. I am sure you have already done that. jenny
