Guest guest
, I have used amitriptyline for 15 years. Changes in dosage have left me either more sleepy (temporarily) or less sleepy (during the day - when dose was decreased). But my amitriptyline is primarily to suppress my CMT tremors. What I am saying, or trying to, is we are all different and doses need to be adjusted according to age, weight, nature of condition, effectiveness, etc. I am in constant communication with the prescribing doctor on my amitriptyline needs and I encourage you to do the same. This medication is given for a variety of reasons, and an open and frank discussion with your doctor on your sleep needs might be helpful. This is what I did. Perhaps you might want to consult with a doctor who specializes in sleep disorders to explore your sleep patterns future. I did this too. I also learned better sleep hygiene once I left the graduate school scene. That is, no all nighters studying, a set bedtime, routines before bed, meditation, etc. I also had to take a look at WHY I didn't want to take necessary medications that would make my life easier. You didn't say how long you were taking amitriptyline, but it took about 90 days for its total good effects to take place, and when I have dose changes, this is also the case. With every dose change, if it is higher, the 'sleepy' factor lasts me about 6-7 days. So, I can still continue at a high energy level even by making time for a nap in the afternoon. ~ Gretchen
