Guest guest
Barbie, They stitched mine a week after the cut because it kept opening and I have a clotting disorder. He said he could not do it if it was an open wound, but felt it was the right thing to do for my thumb to heal. The ER nurses seemed pretty shocked that he did it. Our Ped said that he has had great results with Risperdol with some of his patients; it's usually his first choice now. I hope you can figure out a way around this. Please let us know how Lucas is doing. Sandi--Mom to , age 9. Suspected IgA def., Tetrology of Fallot, chronic sinusitis, chronic ear infections, asthma, severe allergies, GERD. Guest guest
Hi Barbie, Cassie's heart condition was found by accident. The nurse was out here doing IVIG and was listening to her heart. She said that she was hearing some extra beats/skipped beats and sent us to the ped. The ped heard it in the office and sent us to the cardiologist. We had the worst time with the cardiologist because he would never talk with me and was ordering test and never would discuss results. This cardiologist even wanted to put her on medication that had very dangerous side effects. We later found out that he was not even a certified ped cardio. We were floored. We finally went to another cardiologist who suggested we see one from Texas Children's in Houston, TX. He wants to see her in a couple of months to do another portable EKG to see if she is still having problems. Right now Cassie has not complained of being dizzy or of her chest hurting which are symptoms that we need to be on the lookout for. I agree with Sandi to get this checked out as soon as possible. Does Lucas have a mediport? I know that was something that they really looked at when Cassie was having her symptoms. But, it was just a coincidence that her mediport was causing her so much trouble at the time. Be ready for a rollercoaster ride that Lucas may want to get off. Cassie hates seeing the cardiologist because they are so very thorough which is a good thing. Good luck and let us know how things are going. Guest guest
Thanks Belinda Rose, I know that the Respiradol can cause some of these symptoms but I also know that I have been aware of them for a while. We always blamed it on his Albuterol because of his asthma. He is only on his Servent and Flovent now and his peak flows are amazing. We do in and out IVs so no port. Although his good vein is getting quite scarred. So we will see what happens next. We have never had a port and we started IVIg when he was 4. Thanks for the info. After several hours of checking things out last night. ( Don't try to find a Psychiatrist on a Friday night even if they are on call) I fortunately am a nurse and know alot of people so I called around. Everyone even his PED wanted me to talk to a Psychiatrist. (NO LUCK until he called back at Midnight) I finally called the Pediatricina on call and he worked it through with me that we should do an EKG but it could wait until today. I am taking him to get an EKG today. Then if we find some concerns I will head to Seattle to see a Pediatric Cardiologist. I know we do not have one here. Lucas has webbed toes so I have always wondered if there was any other deformities internally. Anyway, our daughter who is also adopted from another set of birth parents was born with a liver cyst and then 7 years later we found out that she has a duplicate renal system. They did surgery when she was 5 months old for her cyst and did not see the double kidney and double ureter. She has it fixed for severe reflux. She is now 12 and doing well physically. Thanks for letting me vent. I guess I am a bit nervous. BARBIE ( Lucas 7, CVID, IVIg, Bipolar)
Guest guest
Barbie, They might not be able to catch the episodes on the EKG. You will have to ask for a portable one called a Holter monitor. It is very convenient and he will probably wear it for 24 hours. The results are then read by the cardiologist who will make a decision as to what is shown. Let me know how things turn out. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Belinda Rose, We went in and got an EKG yesterday. His heart rate was around 125 which is what he has been running regularly all day long. I took him off of the Respiradol on Thursday night because I found it could have such a side effect. I the psychiatrist finally called us back on Friday night and insisted that it was not the med. We saw a Ped that I have worked with for 12 years who said well maybe it is a viral pericarditits.I do not know why. I was fine with the answer until I go home and began thinking about why we were not checking it our furher. Lucas looks fine. His peak flows are great but he has this intermittent dry ticky cough, no fever, gets tired easily and atleast 4 days of a pulse in the 120-140 range. But... this am he is down to 80-90 so normal. I will watch for now and we will have to think about the med. It has been so helpful with his constant tantrums and agressive behaviors but it is not worth losing him if it is the culprit. So watch and wait as usual and do it alone since there is no one in the medical field doing it, until there is a crisis. ( I take that back the being alone, I know I would be crazy without this group. Each of you contributes beyond your individual selves by being a strong front of support) I rarely discuss any of our health issues with anyone else even my family because I know they get tired of things. Now what? THANK YOU. BARBIE ( Lucas 7, CVID, IVIg, etc)
Guest guest
Barbie, I do hope that you can get to the bottom of Lucas' heart condition. Like I said before, Cassie's was found by accident and now all these cardiologist are worried that she will continue to have these abnormal rhythms and something can go terribly wrong. It just all scared me to death. Right now we are supposed to be watching for any symptoms that she might be showing (fluttering heart/racing heartbeat) and report them immediately. The doctor for TX Children's in Houston said they rarely medicate this condition unless symptoms coincide with the abnormal heart rhythm. They did catch a lot of episodes, but she was not complaining of the symptoms. But, to me they symptoms are so vague for a 7-8 year old to really say something. We are on a 2 month appointment schedule to do another 24 hour holter to compare to the last one we did to see if there are any more/less episodes. I guess I am just telling you to go with your gut feeling. Ped's are not always the best heart doctors. Can you make an appt. with a cardiologist without a referral? Let me know what happens. You might also want to call the pharmacist and ask which medicines have cardiac indications that Lucas is currently taking. Just a thought. Good Luck, Belinda Rose, Mom to Allyssa (11) and Cassie, (8), igg immunodeficient, asthma, sinusitis, IVIG for 6 years, heart condition
Guest guest
NO MORE TENNIS!!! Give your poor leg a chance to heal or you could permanently ...err... muck it up! I don't know what you've done (not a doctor) but I wouldn't recommend doing any quad excercises this week. If you can manage the others without pain then I would say it's ok to do those. It shouldn't set you back much (if any), but permanently damaging your leg would. (btw I kind of know your frustration, I have a sinus infection that's playing hell with my cardio workouts. I feel horrible.) Good luck Phoenix

Guest guest
If surgery turns out to be your only option, and you can see any doc, there's a doc in NY who replaces only the backside of the kneecap and the trochlea (since the replacement is metal, he has to replace the trochlea so the metal won't wear it away). Here's his Web site: http://www.patellapain.com/arthritis_of_the_patella.htm Don't be put off by the word " arthritis " . Some docs lump all wearing away of the bone into the concept " arthritis " . I think this is a mistake, and anyway this guy seems to know what he's talking about, plus I really like the idea of replacing only the parts that are bad. If you have this done, please keep us posted as to the results. Guest guest
Hi ! Don't give up. Here is my success story: I was lucky, and got rid of my cp, it took 3-4 months, and much effort. The cartilage of my patella got strong again, my doc says its fine, and the mri also showed nothing. I hope i can get back to my former activities now (after i have my torn medial meniscus, and slightly damaged IT -from a recent injury- fixed) While rehab, I stopped all my activities (running, fighting), i only did my own physical therapy. cycling, gym, and a few excersises at home every day. It's important to not do anything, that puts any stress on your knees. You'll hate that period, but there will be a result. give it a try, just a few months. especially IT stretch, and vmo strenghtening is important, but every gentle movement of the knee is ok i think. i can describe my excersise-set if you want to. Good luck to you! if i can help somehow, write. - Zsolt > hello- > i'm desperately looking for some success stories with C.P. i have > been dealing with it for about 6 years and all the info. i have > received tells me to moderate my activities. i'm an athlete and have > a real hard time hearing that. i've tried physical therapy and joint > supplements (although i probably wasn't as diligent with either as i > should have been). i just contacted the steadman-hawkins clinic to > talk about surgery, although that doesn't seem to be a sure thing > either. anyone out there who can give some advice?? i'm in ouray > colorado - about 6 hrs from denver. thanks lisa
Guest guest
Also see my recent post (last week?) on my PT exercises. They help strengthen the muscles that stabilize your legs when you walk. If those muscles are weak, they'll become exhausted and then the demand for their stabilizing function is transferred to other structures, like the muscles around your knees. You can imagine what havoc that can cause. Ann If you can't find them, e-mail me & I'll send them. Re: HELP!! > Hi ! > > Don't give up. Guest guest
begin with knee massage, while you sit, legs 90degrees. then stand up, shoulder-wide stance, and do small! circles with your knees while rubbing your knees with your hands in circles (same direction). It's some kind of yoga stuff, its good for warmup. - http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/images/cons1_56_4.jpg -> most of the weight should be on your hands. - http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/images/cons1_55_4.jpg - http://physicaltherapy.about.com/library/graphics/muscleanatomy/itband stretch.gif -> its more intense if you try to reach the floor - http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/images/cons1_23_4.jpg -> with both legs straight - lie on the floor with a small ball between your knees, and push it (good for vmo). - ball between your ankles and raise both legs like so: http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/fact/images/cons1_54_4.jpg, and then straighten your legs /vertically/, also the hip can raise, and then back to the ground and cycle, twice a weak, 30 minutes. (stretch a little, before and after) these were my excersises, it worked for me. however if you have pt, ask him about them, before you adapt some of them. > Could you send me your exercises as I have just begun PT for my recently diagnosed CP in both knees. > > > > Thanks, > been removed]
Guest guest
, As far as I know there is no cure for CP, which is frustrating to hear ...especially when you are an athlete. But don't give up...that is the important thing! I myself have had 2 knee surgeries on my left knee, in the past 2 years...so basically one surgery a year. My first surgery was to determine what was going on, as well as shaving the back of my knee cap smooth again. My second surgery (just last year), was a lateral release and also the shaving of the back of my knee cap. It has been one year ago and I am back being in lots of pain, not knowing where to go next....but I am not giving up hope. I had x-rays done this past Thursday on my left knee and lower back, I have also been referred to see a well known sports medicine orthopedic surgeon in my area. But he is so well known that the list to get in to see him is a mile or two long... My knee is getting worse with each passing day, almost to the point that it is too painful to walk, stand or do anything. The sports medicine doctor is my second opinion, I went to see the orthopedic surgeon who did my last surgery. He basically told me that he didn't feel like doing anything to my knee, that I should just go on some pain killers. He also told me that I should lose weight..what is wrong with that statement? Well, let me tell you....I am a 6'0 woman, that weighs 150-160 lbs...which is what I am supposed to weigh. I am not about to lose weight, because if I do I would be non- existent!!! I was thoroughly upset and angry when I heard this man tell me this..he preceded to tell me that I can do anything I want to do, and that he didn't care because nothing would hurt my knee. also that I do not have a knee problem!! I went to my family doctor and he examined me, he couldn't believe what the surgeon told me...he was horrified!! He said there is a problem with my knee and that other doc. is on crack...Anyways, so now I am in a lot of pain just waiting for a miracle to happen....sigh... -- HELP!! hello- i'm desperately looking for some success stories with C.P. i have been dealing with it for about 6 years and all the info. i have received tells me to moderate my activities. i'm an athlete and have a real hard time hearing that. i've tried physical therapy and joint supplements (although i probably wasn't as diligent with either as i should have been). i just contacted the steadman-hawkins clinic to talk about surgery, although that doesn't seem to be a sure thing either. anyone out there who can give some advice?? i'm in ouray colorado - about 6 hrs from denver. thanks lisa
Guest guest
i would love to see what types of exersizes you do...i'm familiar w/ it band work, but not vmo strengthening. what's that? also, my knees seem to be works when i'm not active (light hiking, walking and rock climbing are my main activities). cp isn't like a tendonitis type of thing, where you need to lay off for it to heal, or is it? thanks, lisa > > hello- > > i'm desperately looking for some success stories with C.P. i have > > been dealing with it for about 6 years and all the info. i have > > received tells me to moderate my activities. i'm an athlete and > have > > a real hard time hearing that. i've tried physical therapy and > joint > > supplements (although i probably wasn't as diligent with either as > i > > should have been). i just contacted the steadman-hawkins clinic to > > talk about surgery, although that doesn't seem to be a sure thing > > either. anyone out there who can give some advice?? i'm in ouray > > colorado - about 6 hrs from denver. thanks lisa

Guest guest
i couldn't find your posts on the pt exersizes. could you please forward them to me? i've had pt a few times in the last few years, but don't remember the specifics of the exersizes and probably wasn't as diligent as i could have been about doing them. after reading some of the posts, i feel i'm not nearly as bad off as some of the folks who are dealing with this, but i wonder if it gets worse with age and time? that seems to be the case. i'm 37 now and am still very active, just can't run or hike with a pack like i used to. how does bicycling affect this ? thanks, lisa -- In chondromalacia treatment , " ruby2zdy " <ruby2zdy@l...> wrote: > Also see my recent post (last week?) on my PT exercises. Guest guest
Hi - Sorry to say I can't help you on this one. I personally use a method of birth control that makes my periods stop completely. I take the Depo Provera shot every three months and I don't usually have any sort of bleeding at all. Not too sad about it, though! help!! ok guys, this is kinda weird but i have to ask. i've been doing BFL for almost 4 full weeks now, and 2 weeks ago i got my period (just as usual) but now i have it again. it's light, but there, and i have had bad cramping and back pains right after workouts. this all started on monday. has anyone had any experiences similar to this? i'm a little freaked b/c nothing like this ever happened before, but i think i remember reading that sometimes exercising can screw up your cycle.... thanks!!!! lindsay
Guest guest
I hadn't had my period in years....about 10-12 or so. Doctors had said it was due to being on the birth control pill for so long. Well low and behold, a few months ago it returned...much to my dismay <G>. BBut I do believe my body is much happier eating healthy and living a health lifestyle.
