Your husband is correct.

I noticed that when I had AFOs, I did the same thing (riding the brake on

occassions)

I also used the brakes a little heavier than most due to the lack of pressure

control.

I find that now I have had both feet operated on, my driving (braking) has

improved.

I have worn AFOs for over 3 years now and since I started wearing

them, I go thru car brakes very quickly. My husband and I have kinda

agreed that it must be my driving/braking style because nothing else

makes sense. As soon as we replace the front brakes, the back brakes

start acting up and vice versa. We have replaced brakes on my

minivan at least once a year since we purchased it new in 1998.

While it can be frustrating, we've just accepted that I am hard on

brakes and leave it at that. :) I've got 6 more years of shuttling

kids all around town, (taxi-mom) and then I won't have to drive as

much anymore and the problem will probably go away on it's own simply

because I won't be driving here, there and everywhere. :)

jeanann here:

I use both legs to drive and I brake with the left foot. I too, wear braces.

I have trouble with right brake going bad and have to have it repaired more

than I would like to. I said to the mechanic, " I think I may be riding my

brake " . He said if that was the problem both brakes would wear. It has been

a mystery to me. I looked up my make and model of my car on the computer

and found that my model has been reported to have a lot of complaints on the

brakes, but there has not been a recall.

Hi all,

Sameer here:

About the car brakes wearing, I am myself not very

comfortable with braking. So, to overcome this

problem, I have adjusted a wooden plank just below the

brakes. This gives my heels the necessary height thus

avoiding any damage to brakes and plates.

Hope this helps someone!

I have similar problems this happened when I only wore 1 brace(AFO). Now that

I have 2 AFO'S and I have lost the ability to use my right leg and foot

(which happened 8 years ago). I drive with Hand controls I have better

control of the gas pedal and the brake pedal. Which means that I'm not riding

he brake all the time. Hand controls are not that expensive, about $300.00.

When you buy a new vehicle from Chevrolet they will re embirsh you up to

$1000.00 for disability equipment
