Guest guest
Some of you may already know that I am filing for Social Security disability. Back in March my family doctor suggested to me that I go for an EMG to see what type of nerve damage I have in my hands and arms due to the CMT. For the last year or so I have had alot of problems along with my legs with pain, cramping and doing things with my hands. He had sent me to a neurologist to have this done. A couple of weeks had gone by and I went back to my doctor for the results. In general he said that the EMG showed nerve damage and he would sign the papers to show that in his opinion I was totally disabled. In May All medical papers have been filed with the disability board . Today I went to the MDA clinic for a 6 Month follow up. I showed my EMG test studies to THEIR neurologist. He look over the chart for about 3 min. and then said I need to apologize for the neurologist that put you through this test. What do you mean? I said. Well there was probably pain involved with those needles they put in you plus the electric jolts. Sure was I quickly stated!!!! He then said that the EMG test was not properly given by the neurologist my doctor had sent me to. GREAT tell me more..... He felt that the neurologist did not know enough about CMT to properly perform this test. It did show that I have carpal tunnel on top of my other CMT nerve problem, but gave a false indication that I have pinched nerves I my neck, which the MDA doctor quickly said I do not, plus other questionable readings. The proper test would have showed different results. Now I wonder how the disability board will look at this? The MDA doctor said he would contact the Disability board with his remarks, but he said most likely I would need the EMG test to be given again if a better study is required. I want to say more but I am really upset now. It's just I am getting a bit anxious for SSA to decide ......one way or another. I know that this incorrect test could cost me perhaps another month or so of waiting.
