After age 50 people, especially women, can have too much iron in their blood. If so, it has to be drained off frequently. It can be very damaging to one's health. When it happened to one of my aunts I found it hard to believe, but since then I've learned that it's true. It's called Hemochromatosis. If you have it, and you take vitamin C in tablet form, you can be in BIG trouble.
