MDA update from a letter I received from Schenkenberger, Director

of Administration, MDA Research Dept. in Tucson ~ FYI

>

> The Association’s present 3-year commitment for support of CMT

> research is over $2 million. Much of the research has been directed at

> identifying the underlying gene defects that result in the various

> forms of CMT. Knowing the gene defects is a significant step toward

> developing effective therapies.

>

> Researchers are now studying the biochemical and cellular processes in

> CMT to identify the mechanism that causes the loss of nerves. This

> will facilitate the development of therapies.
