Guest guest
Hi Carol! Geoff Crenshaw here. >> Subject: rib pain I have been in severe pain for several days. I have had this before, but not this severe. It is mostly on my left side. (a little on my right) It is like the area from my side around to my back, around my ribs, is very painful. It is swollen and inflammed. << If you've had ANY physical stress to the torso, jarring of the body or torso, etc., within 48 hours of the onset of the pain you might want to seek out an Osteopath who practices Chiropractic, or in the alternative a good Chiropractor. The pain you describe is identical to that associated with a dislocated rib head (fore/aft/both). Due to x-ray posturing by Allopaths, this is NORMALLY misdiagnosed as some sort of inflammation or pleurisy for which Rx meds are prescribed. The meds do nothing of benefit for the cause but over time your body adjusts to NOT using that part of your lung which causes the rib to be flexed and creates pain. An Osteo/Chiro will take x-rays from different positions than an Allopath. Once you see these x-rays it will be plain as day what the issue is. The manipulation is not normally difficult, but depending on how long the rib has been out and how well you have adjusted to the problem (from a muscular standpoint) will dictate the number of visits necessary to realign the rib and get your muscles coordinated to help it stay in place. My bride experienced this and it took something like 20 visits to finally stay put - each better than the last. I had one go out a couple of months ago but did not mess around with it. Took me TWO visits. Such is the difference between handling something when it comes up and waiting, waiting, waiting. She waited several months before consulting the Chiro and did so only after going through 2-3 courses of Rx meds through an Allopath, then contacting our Homeopath who told her to go to an Osteo or Chiro. Guest guest
Just a note on that rib pain, Carol, One woman on the arthritis newsgroup just had an experience where her pain was first suspected to be related to her gallbladder, as she had had other problems there before, then another Dr. was sure it was costochondritis (rib cartilege inflammation)....then on another exam by another doctor, it was determined to be a broken rib. Be sure they check it out thoroughly, and do x-rays if indicated by the location of the pain. It is all too easy to have our problems put down to another pre-existing condition, and your saying it is a lot more severe than before makes me suspect that it may be something new. : ) I hope you find a solution for your pain soon. In the meantime, have you also used the simple techniques we sometimes forget of ice (ugh, in winter, LOL, but it does help if you can stand it) or moist heat therapy? And how about plain old pain meds to get you through the worst of this? Wishing you relief, Liz G.
Guest guest
I, too have recurring pain in my ribcage, just like I did 16 years ago when I was in my last tri-mester of pregnancy. This was long before I knew of my CMT. When I was pregnant, it felt like my ribs couldn't support the expansion of my abdomen - it was just too much weight. But weight isn't the problem anymore - I'm not overweight. But the pain in my ribs, just on the right side, is sometimes excruciating. It burns. When it gets that way, I ease up on the exercises for a few days. It comes and goes, for no apparent reason. But it sure is painful.
