Below is a letter I received from Townsend regarding their KAFOS.

Gretchen,

Thank you for the inquiry regarding Townsend Design braces. Townsend

braces

are recommended by medical professionals and require a prescription, we

do

not sell directly to patients or bill insurance. Basically we function

as a

wholesale manufacturer.

Patients are casted by their doctor or at an O & P facility. The cast

mold

is sent to our fabrication plant in Bakersfield, CA. We make the brace

and

return it to the facility which instructs the patient in its use and

care

and makes any minor fitting adjustments. Should any problems develop

with

the brace the facility usually can correct them in consultation with our

orthotists.

Occasionally it is necessary to return the brace to us for a remake,

repair or adjustment. We have representatives in most areas of the

United States who call on medical care providers and facilities. They

can answer questions, provide information and facilitate additional work

if necessary.

We do not have any information on CMT patients who utilize Townsend

braces.
