Guest guest
My doctor is sending me to Physical Therapy for stretching and massaging of my right calf muscle. The muscle has tightened up so much, that I can not flex my foot more than 90 degrees. I also wear AFO's, and now my doctor wants me to wear a night brace or the AFO's at night.(I thought I had sleeping problems before.) I have been going to Physical Therapy for 3 weeks now and I really do not see any improvement. He mentioned that if the Physical Therapy did not work, that it might be a spastic muscle contraction and he would have to try something different. Has anyone elso had this kind of problem or heard of it? Deanna
Guest guest
Deanna, Any physical therapy I have had, either for feet, legs, arms, back, etc., has taken about 6-8 weeks of 3X a week (1 hour each time) so show some results. The best physical therapy I have had has occurs in a 92 degree pool, with a range of movements; for the calf muscles includes walking in water, both forward and back in repitions, also doing the 'step-ups' in water, also jogging in the water (all with some degree of movement INTO the current for resistance. Another exercise I do at home to loosen muscles in foot, leg, and toes is roll a tennis ball under my foot, back and forth, 'unkinks' muscles. (I do this mostly when I am at my computer) ~ Gretchen
