Guest guest
This is regarding exercise: I have been back in the pool these last 7 weeks at our local PT center, strengthening my legs, back, arms, etc. It has been just great and 3X a week for an hour each time. I have managed to regain muscle I lost after surgery earlier this year. The exercises are quite varied - no time for boredom - and done with a 3-5 mile current, plus sometimes I use 2 lb. weights. The therapists at this center KNOW CMT plus everything else so I have been doubley blessed. Yesterday, we tried dancing in the pool. Now, I haven't danced much lately even on land just because the opportunity hasn't been there. Anyway, back to the pool - on came the music, and the therapist showed me Salsa dance steps to do. Now, remember, there is a current, which I was facing, and the whole idea is NOT to hang on to anything, but have good posture/stance first, and do the steps. I didn't use weights for this, but just trying to do this alone, I could feel my legs, back and rear getting a workout, plus it is pretty jazzy music so I had good aerobic work. It is a hard movement for the 'balance deficient', but I could see if I keep doing this, perhaps balance will improve like the other improvements. Besides a good conditioning workout, this dancing in the pool was really FUN! ~ Gretchen
