Guest guest
There is a brand name shoe called 'Born' that some folks might want to look into. They are also great for braces. Joyce D.
Guest guest
I have custom shoes also. I got them last year around Christmas. Sadly, my insurance didn't buy them for me. They're getting more comfortable every day. My ankles still need to be corrected a little more. I have had them re-treaded and that cost about $100 but it was worth it. I'm not sure how long they'll last though. Curtis
Guest guest
Geri, Did you contact Muscular Dystrophy to see if they could help defray the costs? ________________________________ From: Geri Logan <hotwheels@...> Sent: Monday, July 20, 2009 9:34:43 PM Subject: Re: custom made shoes I have had custom and I loved them. but my Insurance will no longer pay..so I have been wearing slippers for five years+ now and feel like a fool when ever I go any place. Guest guest
Ruth My parents are ordering custom shoes tomorrow. I will tell you how it goes. Not sure of the time frame for delivery. We are in NJ so can't help with recommendation either. Lori
Guest guest
I had molded shoes made and they were wonderful.don't recall how much it cost. I haven't been able to afford much of anything, haven't had good shoes for a long time... been resorting to slippers for five years now and in a wheelchair most of the time because of it.....I'm very bitter about it too! Guest guest
I have neuropathy on the soles of my feet and an all around " boneyness " problem three suggestions: 1.) A nice woman from N. of SF posted about her silicone sleeve type orthotics. I drove to visit her & she let me try them on. While they are not hinged, they are soft and gentle on the feet. They help to keep the foot neutral w/ enough flex to prevent a toy soldier type gate. Maybe the info is in archives. 2.) The ONLY AFOs that EVER worked for me were made in SF by a guy at UCSF his name was either Christian something or something Christiansen. When I have another pair made I will go out to SF to this guy. Every other pair made the neuropathy flare or made my feet bleed. The guy associated w/ a famous clinic in SF made my first pair - awful 3+ weeks him readjusting the shape & me bleeding from them. This guy gave a seminar to orthotists on making AFOs for the CMT foot. He was awful. I never ended up wearing them. 2.) Schrader bootmaker in Santa . While he does not specialize in orthopedic, he is into it for the craft of it - takes pride in his work. If you know what you want bring in pictures/samples & be VERY specific. He is not an orthopedist. I had boots made to accommodate AFOs said that they had to be soft & light, lace up the front, flat etc. I went in knowing what I wanted. They are expensive b/c he makes a last for each foot. They are handbuilt & are designed to be easily repaired to last for years. No regrets for me.
