Guest guest
Think " s curves ahead " road sign. Lower back at a 99 degree and the upper chest at 107. She is set to see Dr. Lenke in St. Louis June 16th. We have no history on her as we just adopted her from China. She is 12, has no pain normally unless she bends and then she said it is medium. She has no breathing problems. This is a much more serious situation than we had expected. If anyone has suggested questions that i should ask her for her well being until we see the Dr. please post them! Ruthi
Guest guest
Ruthi, Luckily you will be in great hands with Dr. L. I have a 90/55 curve. Your daughter may not show lung problems but with those numbers she has limited lung function. It will be called Restricted Lung Disease-don't let the Disease word panic you. Prepare your thinking for surgery-it will be forthcoming. If you can find Scoliosis Ascending the Curve by Lyons in the used books it will help you with questions. What a lucky little girl to be in the USA with you. Guest guest
, The Brook Lyons book is the best first book to read because it is by a young ballerina so your daughter can relate. #2 In order I'd read Dr. Neuwirth's: The Scoliosis Handbook. #3 And very last for you would be Scoliosis Surgery the Definitive Handbook by Wolpert. This is for adults preparing for their adult surgery. It can scare you to not go through with a much needed surgery by giving you way to much information. Kid surgery is way different because of their ability to heal so quickly and with very few issues. So I caution jumping into this one or taking it as a bible on the subject for kids-it's not.
