Guest guest
Shriner's hospitals are free in the USA, Canada and Mexico. I would contact them and see what they can do for your son. We don't discuss chiropractic medicine here however. If your son is in that much pain I think you need to see an orthopaedic surgeon right away or at least go the Shriner's Hospital route. Usually they will pay for transportation and care for your youngster. > > My 6 year old was diagnosed with scoliosis yesterday at a chiro., i was in shock, my son kept waking up during night in pain with his leg's since he was 2, i have done all kinds of rubbing on his leg's and his feet hurt all the time he wore feet/shoes molds, molded insoles which cost alot to do since insurance doesn't cover, and extensive long Dr.'s appointments, the Dr.'s kept telling me it was growing pain's, at first i did fall for this and thought it would go away soon, but now he is 6 and has a lot of leg pain, can't seem to walk a very long distance before complaining his legs hurt. he is overweight and i know this doesn't help with his pain. the chiropractor yesterday want's him to do extensive long term treatment's which is very expensive since once again my insurance doesn't pay for, and now i am stuck tring to do all my best to get him better, he has been in pain for so long now that i know i want to do something for him, but i don't have this kind of money for him, i feel i have to do something maybe get a second opinion and take it from their, i don't know else to do at this point when i don't have that kind of money, and know what is best for him to get started right away so that he can start feeling better, i am stuck has anyone bee through this kind of situation, this is the first time i ever knew anything about scoliosis and i searching the internet all night and day for options, solution's and now i have come to this point and asking for opinions. thank you so much for any replies. >

Guest guest
I agree with . Please take your son to see a PEDIATRIC orthopedic surgeon. I also suggest seeing a pediatric neuroSURGEON (not neurologist). His symptoms sounds very much like a tethered spinal cord issue. He needs medical care. Does he have issues with his bowel and bladder? Frequency? Accidents? Low back pain? These can also be signs of a spinal cord issue. The good news is that there IS treatment available. He can be helped, and hopefully caught soon enough that the symptoms can be reversed. I don't know where you live. This list can offer suggestions on who can help your son. Shriners would be a good place to start. Guest guest
Hi, I know you're concerned about your son's diagnosis and you're so right to be concerned about his pain, too. I'll share our story below, but first I want to say that it is very important to get orthopedic and other specialists to rule out any other causes of your son's leg pains. You can ask your pediatrician to confirm the diagnosis and refer your son to an orthopedic specialist, who would know about ruling out other causes of leg pain. If the chiropractor took any x-rays, you would want to bring a copy of them to see the pediatrician or the orthopedist. My daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis just after she turned 10, and we brought her to the pediatrician because of pain, too -- in her case, back pain when she walked that cropped up suddenly, but she had been complaining about leg pain for years ( " growing pains " ). I still don't know whether her leg pain was related to the scoliosis, but I do know that her back pain completely disappeared after the surgery she needed because her curves were already severe. My daughter wears shoe orthotics, and sometime I would like to find out if her flat feet and scoliosis are part of an underlying non-life-threatening genetic disorder of the connective tissue, such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. If you go to see a medical specialist, you should ask him or her to evaluate your son for " underlying conditions " that could contribute to scoliosis and might give a better idea of whether the condition is likely to worsen. That could have implications for treatment. Good luck, and I've also heard great things about the expertise at the Shriners' Hospitals, which (I think) recommended. By the way, we went to Boston Children's Hospital for a second opinion and found it very helpful, even though we had to travel for it. It was worth it, getting another expert's confirmation of our orthopedic surgeon's recommendations, along with a new suggestion for reducing the intensity of the surgery, which we took back to our surgeon. By the way, not everyone needs surgery, but it IS important to get everything checked out. Guest guest
http://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/ Patient Referal/Eligibilty Information E-mail: patientreferrals@... Telephone: 800-237-5055 (in the U.S.) Telephone: 800-361-7256 (in Canada) The above addresses and phone numbers should get you started if you go that route. I am not sure but I suspect that you need a doctor referral first from someone in your area. I used to be a Shriner a long time ago but I am not up to date on the procedures anymore nor do I have any contacts left there so it's kind of up to you to find out. Usually the local Shrine office in your state or province will pay for transportation to and from the hospital (don't quote me on this stuff because it's been a long time) and the Shriner Hospital visits are free. The Shriner members pay for the hospital out of their dues, etc. and raise money locally to pay for transportation. At least that's how it was about 15 years ago. > >
