Hi Bruce!

Youch that is expensive! I got rubber tubing (don't bother with the

straps because you can tie it any way you want) in two

resistances and a whole swack of exercises from my pt for free a

number of years ago. Now I think the tubing costs $1 a foot. I'd

go see your pt and spend the money learning what exercises will

help you for a whole lot less that $100. Hey, if you send me $50

U.S., I'd be happy to send you my kit! 8-)

I am new to the group.  I'm 57 and had  19 " fusion in 1997, not fused to the

secrum but all the way up to the shoulder blade region.  It was anterior and

posterior major 11 hour surgery.  I have not really been able to walk well

since, and began having trouble walking upright (falling forward from waist up)

right from the beginning.  The surgery itself went well, but I am wondering if

they did something wrong that caused me to have problems falling forward.  PT

said my pelvis was stuck in the wrong postion.  I walk very slowly (for balance)

and can not walk more that 1/2 block.  It is becoming increasingly difficult to

stand and walk.... not pain but the stress of fighting against gravity.  On

major disability with very limited abilty to work.

New PT (after a fall) ordered exrays and suggested a neurosurgeon with whom I

might discuss another surgery.  YIKES.

They want to reconfigure my spine, take out the first and put it in a different

shape.  Posterior only, 8 hour surgery this time.

Im just wondering...

did they do a bad configuration the first time?

will this next suggested surgery improve things (if I live through it)

Anyone else here had this experience?

suggestions where I might go to educate myselF?

resources?

I'm in a stressful lifestyle, so do not often take the time to try to

investigate this topic, just try to keep going, but it gets harder all the

time.

suggestions welcome

Hi Carol,

Sorry to hear that you are in such pain right now. A friend just had her

original surgery last year, about the same age as you, and is having to go

for another surgery to readjust the lumbar curve. Everyone is different and

it is sometimes hard for the surgeon to calculate the proper, supposed to be

natural, lumbar curve while you are on the operating table. There are so

many factors that goes into the calculations, that sometimes the

calculations are just slightly off, but to us it seems like it is a huge

difference.

If you haven't already, it is a good idea to get copies of your medical

record, including surgery notes and X-rays. This will help you with all

follow-up visits that you may have. You might also want to get an

appointment with your original surgeon, if possible,, as they like to help

their patients as much as possible to gain a better quality of life.

Take care of yourself,

A fellow scoliosis,

Llweyn
