You may have read in other notes over the past that titanium

is 'brittle.'  Well, first of all, let me say, they are lighter.

Another hardware material option exists besides stainless steel and

titanium.

My Stryker XIA system (placed 2/5/2008) is comprised of 6mm Vitallium

rods and titanium pedicle screws.

Vitallium is a proprietary cobalt, chromium, moly alloy. It's

strong, it's light (the equivalent hardware I have in 316 SS would

have weighed ±1 lb. ... mine weighs ±6 oz.).

It's also MRI-able with no distortion.
