I agree with you. I spent 12 years in extreme pain trying every alternative

known --except the Copes method, thank God. I almost did but had divine

intervention at the last moment and changed my mind. But when I first started

having pain, and my curve progressed 10 deg in a year, no one believed my pain

was from my scoliosis. This was back in the 90's. And the surgeons I saw

recommended against surgery. So I dealt with it. I didn't even take meds until

2002 when I started getting worse. I got to where I could hardly walk. I got a

TENS unit, was put on Tramadol, spent a lot of time and money on program that

promised they'd change my curve, I can't remember the name of it, but it didn't.

It did give me better muscle tone though. And that did help. When I finally

found a surgeon who thought I'd benefit from surgery, I went through an intense

program that used computers to measure my strength improvement. I'd never had

such strong muscles, my abs, legs,

arms, back, neck, they covered it all. I still had the same curve and pain

though. My surgeon said that because I was in such good shape before surgery, I

had a better than usual improvement for my age. I was 47. So even though those

things don't actually change the curve, and if any dr or chiro tells you it will

they're full of bs, having strong muscles makes a world of difference. Now,

since my surgeries, I can't seem to get my muscle tone back, and I think that's

part of why I have pain. I don't know for sure, but I think it's possible.

Sadly, no matter how many ppl want to believe this, there is no medical proof

that it works. Diet & exercise might help you feel better & have a better

outlook, but it will not affect the curve. Neither will yoga, chiropractic,

supplements,  pilates,  & the like. If it's come to a point that a person needs

surgery, then they need surgery. However, as has already been posted, it's your

decision on whether to have surgery.

I spent nearly 5 years pursuing every activity known to man & was even braced,

but my curve progressed to a dangerous degree. Some curves will progress with or

without treatment; some curves will remain constant with or without treatment...

once the curve reaches a certain point, though, there's no decreasing it without

surgery.

If you do not elect to have surgery, remember that curves can continue to

increase over the years...even if they've been stable in the past. If I hadn't

had surgery, I literally wouldn't be here right now. It can affect your lungs,

heart and many other body systems. ~Moonbeam
