Guest guest
Precisely my complaint in response to the letter about that great " humanitarian "   Obachei who takes only self-pay and only very, very rare insurance coverages. His " screening "  staff person told me pointedly (her voice dripping contempt) that he does NOT accept " charity patients "  - I was even refused a full-fee consult with him, to benefit from his second opinion. Not my definition of humanitarian   - and BTW she told me he also  does not (as per his hype) accept impoverished Ghanaians   either. ( ________________________________ From: Ellen Mchugh <castlegregory.clan@...> Scoliosis Treatment Sent: Wednesday, August 17, 2011 10:40 AM Subject: Lions Tigers Bears and Insurance OH MY  Hi I just found out that none of the doctors at Hospital for Special Surgery take my insurance or my husband they don't take any insurance....... I can't afford to go see the best doctors and I make a decent living.... so instead I made an appointment with Dr. Rudolph Taddonino in Westchester County NY. He doesn't take office visit insurance but if you need surgery he will work with your insurance company. How horrible is this..... I live in NYC! Guest guest
In NYC there are a few very good doctors that do take insurance. For example, Dr. Errico at NYU and Dr. Kufflick at Beth Israel. Pearl
Guest guest
It can be difficult to find a good surgeon for any number of reasons. I live in the Southwest after having lived in Madison, WI for most of my life. It was quite a shock when I discovered that there was initially no one who took scoliosis patients and then when one Dr. did move here he didn't take any Medicare plans. When my rods broke and I needed extensive surgery I traveled to Phoenix. A couple years later I ended up in San Francisco Medical Center. So very often it's necessary to travel to get the care you need. It's definately a better choice than to settle for a lower quality of care. It's just a shame that this is how our healthcare system works here. The trip home after my surgeries was very difficult and also expensive. I also was all alone when in the hospital. But we do what we have to do. Â I'm sure you'll find an excellent surgeon who will take your insurance eventually.
