Guest guest
Hello Holly, I'm so pleased you posted to the group. When one has questions, it is helpful to hear from others regarding their personal experiences. I am now 42 years old. I was not officially diagnosed with CMT until I was 36 years old, so when I gave birth to my son at 24 years old...I did not know I had CMT Type 1. My son is now 18 years old and has not been tested for CMT (his choice). Naturally, I am a very proud mother because he received the Presidential Scholarship to a local college. Holly, let's roll the calendar back 18 years and I'll share my giving birth to my son. Back then, the hospital where I gave birth to Jordan did not have an anesthesiologist (rural East Texas); so I gave birth to him naturally. My former husband and I attended Lamaze courses at the local hospital. I found them to be beneficial in helping me to " focus " on something other than the pain. I too am not a fan of pain, but truly it is something you forget. The doctor tried to induce labor with an IV drip, but that did not work. The next day, he broke my water and that caused the contractions to begin. I was in labor for 7 hours before giving birth to my 6 lb. son. What a blessing!! I was able to go home the day after I gave birth to him. Again, I never knew I had CMT when I made the choice to have a child. Eighteen years later, I have a wonderful son who is a great contribution to society, and the apple of his mother's eye. Arming yourself with knowledge is the best way to deal with your pregnancy. Perhaps you can find a gynecologist in your area who knows about CMT. If not, sit down with your doctor and share all the information you have (printed and websites). Do not let others experiences scare you or upset you. Focus on you and your baby. If I can answer any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Best wishes.
