I'm not familiar with the Wilmington but you may also want to consider the

Spinecor Brace.

Subject: Wilmington Brace

Hi.

I'm new to the group and am hoping for some advice. My 13 year old daughter was

prescribed a Wilmington Brace since her curve recently reached 30 degrees. What

are the pro and cons of having a brace specifically a Wilmington brace? Any

info would be helpful.

Many Thanks,

Hi ....

I have never heard of the Wilmington Brace mentioned on this list, or any of the

other scoliosis list I am on.

The brace most often prescribed is the Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral-Orthosis (TLSO),

often referred to as a " Boston Brace " . For very high thoracic curves, a

Cervico-Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral-Orthosis (known as a Milwaukee brace) is most often

prescribed.

Other braces that are sometimes prescribed are the ton Bending Brace also

called a “nighttime†brace because it is only worn while sleeping. Another

brace that is sometimes prescribed is the " SpineCor Brace " ; however, is is still

quite new, and; therefore, still considered experimental by many.

You may what inquire from your daughter's doctor as to why he/she prescribed the

Wilmington Brace over the more " popular " braces for scoliosis treatment and/or

get a second opinion.

I hope this helps!!

FYI: When I began wearing a brace the TLSO had not yet been developed, or it

was not yet widely used (mid 1970's). Therefore, I began brace treatment with

the Milwaukee brace, and later transitioned to the TLSO (late 1970's -- early

1980's).
