Guest guest
Your surgeon is dishonest and his pride is misplaced. After being with this group for a number of years I have noticed how over-optimistic USA scoliosis surgeons appear to be. That's what comes across to me from the various postings. When I saw my surgeon a few months before surgery, I happened to mention that one of his patients (who I had met & with whom I kept in touch) told me of his travels to the US to consult with surgeons there. His scoliosis was severe, but the surgeons in the US had been very gung-ho about the outcome, saying that they could absolutely achieve a VERY good result. When I mentioned this to my surgeon (who also knew this patient) he told me the patient would probably not survive the post-operative recovery period because his lung function was so poor and that is the reason no UK surgeon had operated on him. What I'm saying is that some surgeons perhaps get blinded by faith in their own orthopaedic ability but forget the overall picture. Lida in London Re: Hi Everyone - Yep, New With Questions About Surgery, et al GOOD LUCK for anyone having scoliosis surgery; may yours not be the nightmare I still live with; almost 15 mths. in bed! And the proud surgeon said " I've done my job, you are straight!!!!! " So long in other words, as I can no longer sit in my wheelchair but for very brief, necessary moments. Any advice to get a new set of eyes - no one in this small states seems to care, except stick a trial stmulator in me. And after one is permanent, no more MRI's I've learned!!!!! Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear that . I had my surgery 11 years ago. It has cost me everything. But I had double curves and the top curve was sqeezing my heart and lungs together which could have kill me in 3 -5 years. My doctor was the same way. He came in the room proud of this work. It was the most traumatic thing I have ever gone thourgh and have had nothing but problems since. He was an orthopedic doctor. I know some dr's are neurologists.
