RAJ THACKERAY: Marathi manoos par excellence, he could only ask his wife to SMS her buddies to try and sell the 'Marathi identity' of the victims. Didn't work, apparently – the buddies splashed and shredded it all over the net

THE CRASS DIVIDE Till a day or two ago, the question 'How could they' was about the terrorists who stormed hotels and other locations in Mumbai. Now, it seems to be asked in the context of some of our leaders as well. Everyone, from celebrity friends who received Mrs Thackeray's message, to bloggers and even fellow party members, are thinking of alternative careers for them after their public service messages, except Amitabh Bachchan – he had no words for them. Here are a few reactions:

R R Patil... was forced to resign by his party-members who were scared of losing votes because of the callous attitude of their colleague. But, I won't be surprised if he becomes a minister again... V S Achutanandan – ...Weren't you people satisfied making money out of the Kargil Fund, Arjun Tanks, Bofors Guns that you now have to stoop to openly abusing a martyr's family? Really, how low can you go?... You keep treating us

– the people who pay your wages, pay for your medical treatment in the US, pay for your foreign trips (with family, of course), pay for all your perks and indeed your existence itself – like dirt! And yet we have kept quiet for so long. One angry reaction from a slain soldier's father makes you mouth a statement like that? ...I have a solution for all these jokers! When the next attack happens – and it will, because we have more such people in our government, sucking our blood and surviving on our money – why don't we trade them for hostages?... They say they feel our pain (and every politician says that!), let them really feel it for once."
