hiI think it'd be good for you to read the previous messages on the pages ofthis group from the very beginning, because there were many "new-comers",the same as you, who asked for absolutely the same information. Moreover, you'll find plenty of useful advice and links for yourpreparation, while reading the previous messages. Good luck!

P.S.I forwarded the message from Victoriia.

Welcome to the group!

I am 54 and spent most of my adult life either bingeing or dieting. Around and around, up and down. I gave up dieting several years ago when I just couldn’t stand it anymore.

Then I had a bad fall last August or September. It humiliated me. I realized how it was no longer just about looks, but my health was at stake. Aging too. I mean, I began to realize that I was incapacitating myself. I was looking forward to a bleak future.

What I did was let go of every idea I had about dieting and started as though it were the first time. I chose calorie counting. And I didn't calorie count like I use to, where going over the limit would give me permission to binge. I decided that the only rule I was going to follow was to count, no matter what the ending number would be. Each day, I entered my planned meals in the software program, each evening I reviewed it and entered the changes, if there were any. I decided that routine was more important than perfection. It took hold, each day built upon another day and I am now past the 6 month point.

I know that feeling of wondering how to get started, how to make what seemed to fail a millions times. Sometimes it just takes starting and doing it. Let go of the negative feelings, replace them with determination that you will eat a healthy meal today, no matter what else you ate. Then build on it, eat two healthy meals....keep doing it until you feel good about it.

Every time I approached dieting with dread and resentment, I failed it....I am sure "on purpose". This time around, I approached it with a humble heart. I needed to rescue myself...from my bad eating. So I do this as nurturing as I can, I work it, talk about it, write about it and stay with it.

What would you like to do? If you can imagine yourself being successful, what did you imagine yourself doing to get there?

thank you for the wellcome :)

I will be so glad if I find some help here, and maybe help others in the future.

what I would like to do? you know, right now, I have apsolutely no idea. that's

what I am like lately (for a long time now) - no brains. empty. a few months a

year I work at the souvenir shop. not my dream job. but no hard manual labour

involved. a lot of hours on my feet thoe.

but I guess, if I wasn't this fat, I'd gladly do any job that pays. and is

decent! :) now, I just hope to get the old summer job again. couse I don't know

who else would hire me! I speak two foreign languages well and another one I can

get by with. her it is! that's what my dream job is! I would love to be a

translator. I remembered! :) won't ever, no college.

as for starting a diet...I so hope I can find a strenght ....motivation is hard.

I have none. :( it sounds stupid. Thought about therapy. thought about many

things. never did anything...

Hello, I also need to lose a lot of weight, so I know where you are coming

from. I've battled weight since I got pregnant for my first child. (He'll be 26

this year). I've been on all kinds of diets. I lose and gain, it's tiresome.

I'm determined to lose it for good this time. I plan to focus on 1 pound at a

time. We don't have to wait until we make goal to feel good about ourself. You

can start now, today, this moment. You can do this! I can do this! We all can

do this! Together! You really need to go to the doctor and have that leg

checked. By thrombosis, do you mean a blood clot? Not to scare you, but I had

a dvt behind one knee for sure, maybe both. Anyway the clot broke off and

traveled to my lung. I had to be airlifted to another hospital for emergency

care. Please get it looked at. You don't want that to happen to you. Anyway,

hope to get to know you and help one another make goal. This is my first week

of recomitting to lose, I haven't been perfect, but I'm trying. My doctor told

me I have to lose too. He also said I must exercise to keep the clots away.

Hugs sent your way

babysteps my friend. You could start basic. You take what you weigh times 10. That is the calories it would take to maintain your now weight. You need to eliminate 3500 calories to lose 1 lb. Either by calories in OR exercise.

EXAMPLE I weighed 254 today

2540 calories to maintain this weight.

start there and record everything you eat.

thank you! you may adress me as kt :)

why do I eat this much? food is my life! it's what I use to fill the great big

hole in me. it's a comfort. all these things.

I could go on and on and tell you about every diet I ever went on. how great it

was and why I always gain back and then some. it is every time, eeeevery time

bad stuff happens. I EAT.

the question is, where to go, what is the place in my mind, in my soul, that

could be a substitute and strong enough to battle THIS pattern of running to

food for comfort.

sometimes it's like I spite the world by being fat! like I'm saying You world,

you don't do right by me!? FINE! I don't need you and just to prove how little i

care about you world, see how big and ugly I can get!

stupid.

so, lets look for that place that can fight off stupidity in us! lets find a

way. I am willing to look with you all.

I enjoy food too!I am working on changing what foods I go to when I am comfort eating. One of the things that I always have available is a bag of baby carrots. They are becoming my go to comfort food.Instead of saying "no" to comfort eating --- substitute something else.I enjoy chocolate. I am not saying "no" to chocolate. I always have a low fat chocolate milk available. It is becoming part of my afternoon snack to have a glass of chocolate milk. Curbs my desire for chocolate. Gives me that additional glass of milk that I should be drinking.I cannot control the world or what is going to happen. The only thing that I have any control over is how I am going to act or react. I'll say Welcome as well, and add one thing to what Ann said below that helped

me this time around to finally feel like I was getting somewhere.

When I started this time around I choose one item in my daily eating that I felt

wasn't very healthy and I removed it. This is purely what I did for the first 4

or 5 months. Eventually I began to feel better physcially and mentally simply

by accomplishing that one goal.

After that it was easier to build on that one item and go from there.

I choose removing all 'diet' food from my intake. I no longer eat any

artificial sweeteners at all.

My second change was to add a daily salad to my food. I didn't count or weigh

or measure anything, I also didn't remove anything else. I simply added that

salad.

I found by adding the salad, I then eventually and slowly began to make better

choices.

You can do this!

Mouthrinses may be recommended but only for short-term use (7-10 days). Rinsingwith chlorhexidine (0.2% for about 1 min) reduces plaque formation, while the use ofa hydrogen peroxide or sodium hydroxyperborate mouthrinse oxygenates andcleanses the necrotic tissuesFrom: Neha <gupta_neha22@...>Subject: hi Date: Thursday, April 15, 2010, 1:05 PM

ya you can get it from your state dental council for example if you did your BDS

from Karnataka so apply at Karnataka State Dental Council.

if you phone your state dental council they might tell you what documents you

need including the fees, which has to be a demand draft i think. good luck
