Guest guest
Dear Dr.Kiran, MCI recommends the minimum standards required for a particular couse -UG/PG/ or any other. If you look at the goals and objectives set by MCI for each subject , they are directed towards what is expected out from a medical practitioner in Indian set up.Now, It is up to the university/ colleges to adopt the minimum plus upgrade it as per your facility/ feasibility and enthusiasm. What needs to be done to overcome the discrepancies? All the subject experts needs to get to gather , work out on the curriculum and evaluation pattern, submit the resolution to the university. All the four medical colleges under Gujarat university has followed the above method and today we have same curriculum in theory and practical , same practical manual and even the evaluation system which also matches with MCI. The problem is coordination amongst us rather than MCI.... What better occasion to start a discussion on medical education than on "National Education Day", that is today. Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has decided to observe 11th November, birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Union Minister of Education as the “National Education Day†every year. In this connection, attached herewith please find an article of mine on changing dynamics in higher education published today in a regional English Daily. Though the article does not deal with medical education in particular, it concerns higher education in general. Article presents a brief overview of the proceedings and recommendations of an expert level panel discussion organized by the Academic Staff College of the University of Kashmir in association with Indian Institute of> Public Administration, Kashmir Chapter at Srinagar on November 1st, 2008. Veteran academicians of the state including principals of several degree colleges and noted academicians of the Universities of Kashmir and Jammu participated in the panel discussion, of which I happened to function as the Rapporteur. Guest guest
Dear members Great start for a thought provoking discussion.I fully agree with Mira mam that all colleges should have some sort of understanding and coordiantion rather than putting the blame on MCI.We had such meetings in Kerala where subject experts discussed matters regarding curriculum and exam patterns. These meetings are still going on at different levels which will then be forwarded to the MCI.Evaluation should be mainly focussed on developing the various skills of the students which will be useful later in their medical practice. Guest guest
Thank You Ma'm for the kind suggestions... We, the 9 medical college's-pharmacology heads really need to sit together n rewise the practical syllabus atleast,Because, at our OWN-level,we cant stop the pharmacy/EP exercises, and same is true to introduce new interventions... Anyway till the final uniformity is attained in RUHS-colleges,we can partially and very slowly adopt/look forward for newer evaluation criteria... Obviously then we have to teach them all may be beyond present syllabus n that to during that very tenure. I shall definitely try putting your views/suggestions in the forthcoming meeting. Thanx once again. Regards! Dr.Kiran V.Barar > > > > From: Geer M.
