Cherish this fresh and juicy RUM!Feb. 9th, 2008 by Rajendra Diwe IT IS a natural phenomenon that the alcoholics may be addicted to RUM which is the common and oldest brand of liquor selling in India. But someone using Internet very regularly can get a surprise that the doctors, medical practitioners and the medical students or people related to medical field are also addicted with RUM. The addiction is increasing day by day. This RUM is not like Old Monk, McDowell etc, it is different and it is manufactured by the one and the only Dr Vijay Thawani, a Professor in Pharmacology, Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur. As this RUM is available on Internet, he gave the name as NetRUM. Why the name RUM? Dr. Thawani has beautiful answer, "RUM stands for Rational Use of Medicines" "NetRUM is a not for profit. It is voluntary, co-operative, non-funded, discussion group of like-minded rationalists without any conflict of interest. It is two-year young and has more than 220 members globally. NetRUM was born during the training course on promoting rational use of medicines held in collaboration with World Health Organisation's (WHO) Education and Development Programme on Medicine (EDOM), South East Asia Regional Office in 2006 at the Department of Pharmacology, Government Medical College and Hospital, from March 1 -8, 2006", he added. NetRUM is very tasty and spicy as it has a number of moderators world wide, who starts and cooks the discussions on the topics related to medical science. When one can go to the topics of discussions, he could find that NetRUM is really hot, as it is continuously conducting E-discussions on hot topics which are facilitated by knowledgeable moderators who offer their valuable, expertise free of cost. "So far we have conducted 40 discussions on very relevant topics concerned to medical field. Since this is an open, unfiltered, unedited platform, the owner and moderators do not take any responsibility for the views expressed by the contributors. The opinions expressed in the posts are of the contributors and do not have endorsement of the group" Dr. Thawani said. The discussions on this group are helping budding doctors, medical teachers, the professionals and at large the common people also to update their knowledge on day to day basis. That is the reason why NetRUM is gaining lot of popularity on the Internet. When this group was started there were only 24 messages in a month but now at present more than 250 persons are regularly participating each month, he added. In short if people want to get more and real knowledge about the rational use of medicines, they should get the taste of NetRUM and there is also no harm if they get addicted with this RUM.
