Hi, Everyone............My day started nicely with Gareth and I taking the

gifts up for Communion at Mass today. He made me proud !!!

MB.......I am glad I am not the only one who gets angry at God. Wish I could

highlight people's remarks, but I don't know how to do that !!!!

Maureen.........Did not make her First Communion because of her

cast? Perhaps you can have a private Mass......that is what we had to do for

Gareth. At the time, there was no way he could participate with the other

100 kids or so. Way too much stimulation and too long of a ceremony. I

kinda liked it myself. He did feel very special.

S...........and others about OCD. I know that Autism has a lot of

repetitiveness, but several years ago, a psych. said that there was a

difference in the OCD and the Autism repetitiveness. OCD is more 'normal'

things (hard to explain) Glasses and plates have to be in a certain place

on the table: his letters and numbers have to be done 2,3, 4 times before

he moves on to the next letter or number: can't brush his teeth till his

hair is done first: won't touch his shirt till socks and pants are on, etc.

The repetitiveness from the Autism (to me) is the non-stop rocking and

growling: non-stop flapping arms: banging his toys together for sensory

stim. Zoloft & Zyprexa did nothing for Gareth's OCD. Prozac worked for a

while. The Luvox has worked for 1 1/2 yrs.......now we need to try something

else. The Risperdal greatly decreases the Autistic behavior and brings him

into our world more. The Luvox takes care of the OCD behavior...........he

doesn't throw a tizzy if something isn't done the way he expects it to. Even

now, he could care less if we move our glasses at the table. He doesn't

reach across and puts them back where they belong (in his mind). There was a

time when that would send him into 7th Heaven in anger or frustration. His

brother use to do it just to get him upset.......at that point we wanted to

smack both of them !!!!!!!!! It is all sooooooooo complicated!!!!

ALSO.......did anyone get the results on the ATEC done a couple of

months ago. They e-mailed me. Gareth comes out smack in the

middle........50-59% of Autistic kids. His behavior and social skills really

did him in. The web site for results is:

http://www.autism.com/atec/report1.html

Take care everyone. Margaret

Right on, Shelby!

I once wrote a newspaper column about in which I related how she had

blessed my life. I ended it with this line:

When someone out of misguided sympathy says to me, " Perhaps some day they

will find a cure for Down's Syndrome, " I can only reply, " I hope not! "

Shelby,

Thank you so much for sharing. I had experiences that seemed to be " preparing "

me for my little guy too. I remember admiring a mom and her child with DS. I

could see so much love there, and I remember thinking that that was what really

mattered. The child was happy and loved, and the parent was obviously happy and

loved in return. Now that it's my turn, I'm so surprised. I would never have

guessed that having , just the way he is, is exactly what I would want.

But it really is.

Thanks, Shaye, and the same to you! My family took me out to eat at Macaroni

Grill, then to the Lamberton Conservatory at Highland Park in Rochester, then

to see the fast ferry. Finally, I got to come home to take a nap. Four of

my kids were home, so that was nice, and I talked to the other two on the

phone. :-)

Maggie,

I'm still alive and kicking since my 2002 operation and i'm still reading all

the posts here eventhough I'm busy with my full time job in Saudi Arabia. I

have gained a lot after a surgical (Laparoscopic Heller’s Myotomy). Now my

weight is 171 pounds from 121 pounds. I enjoyed all the food that i'm eating

without any problem at all. I was lucky with my beautiful wife Shirley

supporting and caring me. Mentally and emotionally (as strange as it sounds) I'm

better off now than I was before I got sick. I've learned not to worry about the

small little things in life that used to occupy my mind. I've learned to take

chances in life - to be bolder and less afraid. The bottom line for all these

things is at last, i'm free from achalasia.

God Bless,

Nonato

Nonato, this is wonderful news and I am so happy that you

are doing so well physically, but that all of life seems to be

good for you.

I'm glad you still read the post, but stop in and say hello

more often. :)

Blessings to you and Shirley,

Ward Howe wrote the Mother's Day Proclamation in 1870, as a call

for peace and disarmament. An excerpt follows:

From the voice of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with

Our own. It says: " Disarm! Disarm!

The sword of murder is not the balance of justice. "

Blood does not wipe our dishonor,

Nor violence indicate possession.

As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil at the summons of

war,

Let women now leave all that may be left of home

For a great and earnest day of counsel.

Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.

Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means

Whereby the great human family can live in peace...

Howe failed in her attempt to get formal recognition of a Mother's Day

for Peace. Her idea was influenced by Jarvis, a young Appalachian

homemaker who, starting in 1858, had attempted to improve sanitation

through what she called Mothers' Work Days. She organized women

throughout the Civil War to work for better sanitary conditions for

both sides, and in 1868 she began work to reconcile Union and

Confederate neighbors.

Jarvis' daughter, also named Jarvis, would, of course, have known

of her mother's work, and the work of Howe. Much later, when her mother

died, this second Jarvis started her own crusade to found a

memorial day for women. The first such Mother's Day was celebrated in

Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908, in the church where the elder

Jarvis had taught Sunday School. Grafton is the home to the

International Mother's Day Shrine. From there, the custom caught on —

spreading eventually to 45 states. The holiday was declared officially

by somes states beginning in 1912. In 1914 President Woodrow

declared the first national Mother's Day. Nine years after the first

official Mother's Day holiday, commercialization of the U.S. holiday

became so rampant that Jarvis herself became a major opponent of

what the holiday had become. Mother's Day continues to this day to be

one of the most commercially successful U.S. holidays.

Saint Theresa's prayer:

May there be peace within you today. May you trust that you

Are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities

that are born of faith.

May you use Gods gifts that you have received, and

pass on the love that has been given to you

May you be content knowing you are a child of the universe.

Let this energy settle into your being and allow your soul the

freedom to sing, dance, celebrate, create

and love.

It is there, within, for each and every one of us.

May it be so,

Love and light....

Lovely story Anya:)! My kids made me breakfast for Mother's day,

bought me chocolates, and a mug, and now... I'm milking the moment by

trying to get them to clean the house (this not so successfully:P).

We're taking my mom out to dinner tonite, and I think I'll get her

some flowers too. We bought her a new dishwasher for Mother's Day, so

she already got a nice gift. I bought my Mother in law a vintage

Lamp... that may not arrive in time for Mother's Day, but

she'll be getting loads of goodies anyway, so it will be even more

impactful when she gets it as a finale (so I justify the late

shipping).

Hope all the mom's out there have a wonderful day:)!
