I gave my mother three wildly disparate gifts - getting her car repainted, some dental bridgework, and a pricey pair of trendy sunglasses, lol. There'll be no holding her back, driving around town, flashing her grin, big ol' sunglasses on her nose. Never did get to the crab and margarita tonight - we noshed at stuff from Whole Foods and an Italian deli on the ride to Fort Lauderdale. Mother Nature gave me a nice gift today -- my first Jasmine officinale var. Grandiflorum ssp. Grasse flower this morning! Right into the tincture it went. Bet she LOVED that:)! > Mother Nature gave me a nice gift today -- my first Jasmine > officinale var. Grandiflorum ssp. Grasse flower this morning! Right > into the tincture it went. That's exciting too! My mother has sambac growing out front, but it blooms over time more gradually, and it's frustrating to go over there every day to pick 4 or 5 tiny flowers at a time, so I'm sort of forgetting about the jasmine tincture for now. Hrm... maybe I can get her to do it... heheh.
Guest guest
Lovely to read of all the Mother's Day doings! When I got home from taking my grandmother shopping 'til we dropped, my four fuzzy children (with my husband as their agent) presented me with Mother's Day prezzies. Some turn-of-the-20th-century ground-glass-stoppered apothecary jars (one with the citronella oil still in it, another still holding traces of tincture of myrrh -- wonder what IFRA-creepies might be in those now <G>) and a hand-blown, hand-etched pharmacy beaker of equal vintage. So very wonderful! Whee! Andrine

It was nearly an argument free day, yea! No major quarrels. I was allowed to read the paper & discuss articles with the hubby (The immigrant sob stories are getting a bit too much for me), received flowers to plant, played some board games like Yatzee (in remembrance of my mom), Brain Quest, and watched my youngest two look silly playing Twister. My sister came over for supper & my daughter showed me a rabbits nest. My daughter is very protective of them but allowed me to take a couple pics of the babies(I'll post one in the album) and then we left them alone. All in all a very peaceful day. It was the opposite of Sat when I took two of my kids and two of their friends to the Acen (Anime & Manga) convention. People overload! It should be, but I don't know, don't have any old myrrh. Does it smell amazing? I'm always curious about ancient smellies... how lucky you are! I have a feeling that the citronella would be ghastly. The myrrh could probably be interesting. But I'm not sure I'd want to break the seal. I don't know -- maybe in a few years I might get curious and try... For now, I'll enjoy the beauty. And be awed that they're still around. I know a hundred years isn't much when you look at the wonders from Egyptian tombs, but it's still something in this society of " throw it out and get a new one " mentality.
