Guest guest Posted May 15, 2008 Report Share Posted May 15, 2008 This Day in History Today in History - May 15th, 2008 Adoption - 2003 - Authorities arrested several people who allegedly had planned attacks on the U.S. Embassy and other targets in Lebanon. 1991 - Edith Cresson, a Socialist and former trade minister, became the first woman prime minister of France. 2002 - The White House said that President W. Bush had received a CIA briefing in August, 2001, the month before the terrorist attack on New York City and Washington, warning that Osama bin Laden planned to hijack airplanes but nothing was said about possibly crashing them into buildings. 2000 - In a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated a federal law allowing victims of rape, domestic violence, etc., to sue their attackers in federal court. 1930 - Ellen Church became the first airline stewardess, flying on a United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Cheyenne, Wyo.
