Guest guest
Hi, Hope is always there if you look for it. I've been dealing with headaches pretty much everyday for the last 10 years now and I never completely gave up hope. I am now only a few weeks or months away from being healed (from the chronic headaches anyway) and am so excited. For me, I found that my Samters symptoms became so much worse because I had mold in my home. I did not associate environmental causes because it's normal for us with Samters to have headaches and polyp issues. I don't know what kind of symptoms you have but never give up hope. I think I had something like 9 surgeries since 1990 with almost all in the last 10 years. Let yourself feel bad for a day or so, and then pick yourself up and continue to try and find an answer. I actually smelled my hair the other night when I went to bed. At first I didn't know where the smell was coming from because I don't ever smell my hair. It was awsome!!!! I am also having some drainage for the first time in years. I never had drainage unless I went somewhere on vacation. So for you, maybe it's just Samters, maybe part environmental, maybe food related. There's alot of info on the Samters site about Aspirin Desensitization. I haven't tried it yet but many have with positive results. All of us with Samters are very allergic to Aspirin. For me personally, I have had alot of anaphalactic reactions, not only to Aspirin, but extra strength tylenol (my worst reaction), cox 1 anti-inflamatories including Ibuprophen. In other words I am allergic to every single pain killer over the counter. 50% of us with Samters have the Tylenol sensitivity, so be careful when taking higher doses. I hope this email helped and feel free to email the site with any questions you may have. It helps knowing that you are not alone...this site has certainly been a life saver especially in my most depressing moments with this disease. Tami Hope Hi,I found this looking for hope!!! I just had my 6th surgery and am very tired of this. My physicians want me to do the aspirin thing, and I will try that. Kinda scarry though, aspirin makes me incredibally ill.Any way, it sure would be awesome if some one could really figure out how to control this thing, without the cure being as bad as or worse that the illness. Guest guest
One last question, what triggered your Samters? Mine was a miscarriage. Tami Hope Hi,I found this looking for hope!!! Guest guest
I am a new member of the group and look forward to interchange on this subject. I have had asthma, sinus problems including polyps since 1997. Four sinus surgeries. I became aware of the triad after a severe asthma attack after taking Ibuprophen six years ago. Mentioned it to the doctor but still was treated for the separate symptoms rather than the "package" deal! Two years ago another severe attack after taking a combined tylenol/aspirin pill. Again my own research suggested Samters, Finally I was prompted to see an allergist so as to get allergy shots. But zero on the allergies. And then the detailed discussion with the new allergist and treatment for the triad. This consists of prednisone (heavy dose..but now tapering off); singulair; and being more regular using nasocort. After a week of prednisone I am feeling much better...but definitely feel the aching hips that perhaps prednisone brings. I am now doing the research of the desensitization programs. I live in Northern Illinois(but originally from England) and trying to find the most efficacious program. They have one at U of W in Madison. I thought the materials from Cleveland Clinic very helpful and of course Scripps. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated Re: Hope One last question, what triggered your Samters? Guest guest
I AM NEW TO THE GROUP. I HAVE ALREADY SENT THE INFO. BELOW TO ONE MEMBER. LET ME KNOW IF I CAN ANSWER ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE SO FAR WITH THE ASPIRIN DESENSITIZATION. ITS BEEN A GODSEND SO FAR. JANE-LAKEWOOD, COLORADO I am new to this Samters "whatever it is called". I have a 20 some year history of multiple polyp surgeries and lots of fun procedures in between. This past June I was facing my 9th polyp surgery in my lifetime and just told my doctor I simply could not do it. I became depressed even thinking about it. My doctor had talked to me for several years about trying the Aspirin desentisization therapy. Well, I finally said "let's do it. Anything but another surgery." To make a long story short, I am 3 months out of the initial aspirin therapy and continue taking my aspirin faithfully every day. I saw my doctor last week and was shocked when he examined my sinuses. I was hopeful that he would say the polyps had shrunk (I knew I was breathing like I hadn't breathed in many years!) but was amazed when he said they were gone!!! I am still just beside myself! The aspirin therapy hasn't been a walk in the park. I also have Fibromyalgia and have had to refrain from Ibuprofen during the intial months of aspirin therapy. Aspirin has never helped my muscle pain as well as Ibuprofen. I now however, feel that my muscle pain and migraines are much better. I am sticking with this and hope your results will be as good. It is definitely worth a try. Those of us with this disease don't have many options. I'm more than happy to give you more specific info. if it would be helpful at some point. Guest guest
Irrigation Your sinuses are generating inflammatory chemicals by mistake. They mix with, and are transported by, the normal nasal mucous which can be from watery to gelatinous-thick. Rinsing the nasal passages with isotonic solution of water and salt can help expel these chemicals from the nose into the stomach or the sink, so they cannot react with the nasal linings to cause polyposis, or travel down the windpipe to the lungs, and cause asthma. This is my interpretation of the process. I think it can help if used with a gentle flow and used very often (handy spray bottle). Do not do what I did, which was to hang a gallon jug of water with an enema tube from the shower head and fill my nose with water, then forcibly expel it . It blew the thick stuff out allright, but also caused ear infections. I never saw any benefit from saline irrigation, and don't use it anymore. Mark Re: Hope Irrigation. Guest guest
God's Grace It is a shame but this message is very true. Hope you are all asblessed as I was by this story. I wonder how many people will delete this without reading it because of the title. There once was a man named , pastor in a small New England town. One Easter Sunday morning he came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit. Eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, Pastor began tospeak... "I was walking through town yesterday when I saw a young boy comingtoward me swinging this bird cage.. On the bottom of the cage were threelittle wild birds, shivering with cold and fright. I stopped the lad and asked, "What do you have there, son?" "Just some old birds," came the reply. "What are you going to do with them?" I asked. "Take 'em home and have fun with 'em," he answered. "I'm gonna tease'em and pull out their feathers to make 'em fight. I'm gonna have a real goodtime." "But you'll get tired of those birds sooner or later. What will you do then?" "Oh, I got some cats," said the little boy. "They like birds. I'lltake 'em to them." The pastor was silent for a moment. "How much do you want for thosebirds, son?" "Huh?? !!! Why, you don't want them birds, mister. They're just plainold field birds.. They don't sing. They ain't even pretty!" "How much?" the pastor asked again. The boy sized up the pastor as ifhe were crazy and said, "$10?" The pastor reached in his pocket and took out a ten dollar bill. Heplaced it in the boy's hand. In a flash, the boy was gone. The pastor pickedup the cage and gently carried it to the end of the alley where there was atree and a grassy spot. Setting the cage down, he opened the door, and bysoftly tapping the bars persuaded the birds out, setting them free. Well, that explained the empty bird cage on the pulpit, and then the pastor beganto tell this story: One day Satan and Jesus were having a conversation. Satan had justcome from the Garden of Eden, and he was gloating and boasting. "Yes, sir, I just caught a world full of people down there. Set me a trap, used bait Iknew they couldn't resist. Got 'em all!" "What are you going to do with them?" Jesus asked. Satan replied, "Oh, I'm gonna have fun! I'm gonna teach them how tomarry and divorce each other, how to hate and abuse each other, how to drinkand smoke and curse.. I'm gonna teach them how to invent guns and bombsand kill each other. I'm really gonna have fun!" "And what will you do when you are done with them?" Jesus asked. "Oh, I'll kill 'em," Satan glared proudly. "How much do you want for them?" Jesus asked. "Oh, you don't want those people. They ain't no good. Why, you'll takethem and they'll just hate you... They'll spit on you, curse you and killyou. You don't want those people!!" "How much? He asked again. Satan looked at Jesus and sneered, "All your blood, tears and yourlife." Jesus said, "DONE!" Then He paid the price. The pastor picked up the cage and walked from the pulpit. Note: Isn't it funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell? Isn't it funny how someone cansay "I believe in God" but still follow Satan. Isn't it funny how you can send a thousand jokes through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing? Isn't it funny how when you go to forward this message, you will notsend it to many on your address list because you're not sure what theybelieve, or what they will think of you for sending it to them? Isn't it funny howwe can be more worried about what other people think of us than what Godthinks of us? I pray, for everyone who sends this to their friends, that God will bless them in a special way.
