centre, twice a day for about 45 minutes each time. I was wild. They broke

the law, they did not have my approval but it was still done. I had a

meeting on Wednesday and we came to agreement that no more Learning Centre

would happen. That was positive. The downfall to all this is that I have an

Aide with a huge attitude problem. She acted horrid in the meeting, EVEN in

front of her superiors. >>

Hi Sherry,

This sounds like Mav's 1st grade year. I was keeping him home more than

sending him to school at times. Finally, I just took him out and told them

until they hired a qualified AIDE and provided the proper inclusion and

positive behavior managment training for the staff that were going to be

working with him, he would stay home. They don't WANT that. They don't get

$$ for the days when your child is not at school and children with an IEP

bring double the $$ than reg ed students do.

I would recommend that you go to the school board meetings and speak out.

Let them know what is going on and how they are in violation of the IEP. I

would also let them know that a certain staff member (you don't need to

mention names at the meeting) is not working well with your child. Ask them

to please review the situation and find out what is going on. Keep going to

the meetings and letting them know what is going on.

Our School Board members didn't even know that we had filed a due process

against the school. They had been told that we were having some

" discussions " . When they found out how upset we were and how out of

compliance the district was, they got involved. Now, I follow the chain of

command and often go as high as the school board again with issues, but NOW

they know Maverick,,, they have taken personal OWNERSHIP of his education and

stay involved and are very supportive. I wish this for all children, but I

guess there just have to be more big-mouthed parents who aren't afraid of

making waves.

Anyway, that is my recommendation to you. Go higher.

Hi Sherry,

I could have written these same words! I am having very similar

problems.

<<All I want for my child is Inclusion, Can't we just all get along?>>

This is what I want. I am wondering if the school personal are really

as ignorant as I am perceiving them to be or they just have an attitude.

Is there Hope?

Is there hope amidst devastation? Can one make sense out of madness. Your mess CAN turn into a miracle. Let your test be your testimony....FOR HOPE.

Oh Aj this sounds like a good solution for your family and helpful for Noah too. I just read this now, so praying now.

As you know we are totally opposed to the "prison" school that my son's home school wants to place him in. In addition to our not really fitting it is a good fit for him, we feel he would be there for a long time because we still are not sure the medication combination is good for him.

Someone on here suggested doing "in-patient" to figure out the medications. We really want to get that under control so we asked his doctor if there was any INTENSIVE treatment place were Noah could go for a shorter period of time to get things under control and she told us about this place - Prairie Care.

http://www.prairie-care.com/collaborate.php

Noah would go there every day M-F from 8:30 - 3:30 for 3-6 weeks. They decide each child treatment invidivually. He would get 2 hours of schooling with curriculum provided by the school (best option-otherwise the teacher there will provide the cirriculum). Weekends he would be home with us. The other 5 hours would be therapy, medication management (checking vitals, etc) family therapy, behavior therapy, etc.

They give the school weekly updates on treatment and where Noah is at. They would transition Noah back to the main school when they feel he is ready.

We really feel this would be the best option to work on the medication, intensive therapy and still get schooling.

PLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR US TODAY as I ask the school to let us try this option.

Thanks.

Aj

Actually no, the school district doesn't pay, at least from what we know so far. We have an intake for my son on Monday morning. Some insurance companies will cover it but with my husband out of work, Noah only has Medical Assistace - which does not cover it.

However, when I spoke to the intake person, she said they do have some funding options and I wonder if the school could be required to pay a portion of it.

We will just have to wait and see.....

Hi aj, wow this looks like this program might work for your son. Yes I'll pray that if this is something that will help him and you, that the doors will be opened for him to attend this place. I was wondering, will the school district agree to pay for this, seems it would be expensive but very helpful also. Guess they would huh...Keep us in touch,Carolyn OR ;o)ajayb165@... wrote:>> As you know we are totally opposed to the "prison" school that my > son's home school wants to place him in.
