Guest guest
Dear Friends, a lot of discussion is going on course PharmD. If it will be equivalent to MPharm or PhD, will be called Doctors or not, will they prescribe or not and so on.. It¢s natural that whenever something new starts it goes through a appraisal through various minds. the same kind of discussions are also going on some other websites but everyone is sure on one point that PharmD will work of USA or other developed nations. no one is sure what will be the fate of PharmD's in India now I would like to ask everyone CAN INDIA IS IN A POSITION TO SPEND ITS RESOURSES AND MONEY TO TRAIN PERSONS WHO WILL SERVE OTHER NATION? I feel a lot of home work had to be done before starting the course. we belongs to a country where even a DPharm is missing from Chemists shops. Out of numerous drug retail counters not even a single percent are Pharmacy all are chemists. Some may say that I am diverting from the topic but all things need to be evaluating from a wider angle. Till date PCI approval is not mandatory for BPharm. Till date there is no model syllabus from PCI for BPharm. How we can assume that by 2011 something can be achieved? Lets plan backwards... if we need that PharmD prescribes by July 2011, we will need amendments in acts, which will be the jurisdiction on not even a single ministry. It will require the consent of cabinet ministers. We will be opposed from medical fraternity as till date we pharmacists failed to tell the importance of pharmaceutical services.. 2008 is almost over only 2 and half years are remaining. if we will keep on working in the same way as we are doing since last few decades.. We need at least 20 years to improve. First we need to strengthen the PCI and help B. Suresh and PP Sharma in every way so that they can take PCI at its real position only than we can assure right place for DPharm, BPharm, MPharm and PharmD. We all have to work together. To start will we can start a new discussion how to strengthen the PCI. We will have a number of opinions, we can compile them with concrete planning and assurance to help, and then can forward to authorities of PCI. Friends i would like to publish your views on PharmD in Medicare News. pls email your views with your complete details at jainp7@.... During IPC I will be in Media Centre all are welcome to interact. Guest guest
Hi Kiran, Education needs of any profession change with time. Pharm D Course is one such attempt to teach and train clinical pharmacists. Addition of the prefix " Dr " is not the aim. It automatically flows with the qualification and is the reward for putting in hard work. If the old courses have become outdated, it is for the leaders of the profession and the councils to come upto the expectations and try to reform the teaching to meet the current needs. Those streams which fail to do so, naturally loose the ground. Migrating to other countries for better jobs, job satisfaction, work culture, economic rewards, career growth etc is not bad. However every individual has built in responsibilty to serve own motherland. How one does that is individual issue. Education is dynamic and not static. It requires updating and inclusion of new, relevant topics, Pharm D being no exception. Dr Vijay Thawani > > > > > > A message for future Pharm D Doctors in India, > > > Yes you would be titled as Doctors. > > > There is a worry about job opportunities of Indian Pharm Ds in India!!!!!! > > > I have no sadness that I could not study Pharm D because I am teaching it now. > > > I mean at present if you ask me to select a program - for me, in and around, height or depth the first preference is Pharm D. > > > Many expect the Hospitals or Chain pharmacies (with reasonable pay) in India as the main anticipated employer of Pharm D graduates. And many are afraid that these job sectors are not yet pre-equipped for holding Pharm Ds in India. > > > I am wondering that the prime (No.1) sectors which need the service of Pharm Ds are the pharmaceutical industries. They make new medicines and they need the professionals first than any other sector. Then the second priority comes to the hospitals of pharmacies where it is used or distributed. > > > Production is may be one among ten divisions of an industry where Pharm Ds may not be needed. See the other nine where Pharm D is the first choice for an Industry: > > > 1. Clinical Research (for clinical trials - in thousands) > > > 2. Pharmacovigilance (mandatory now for all companies - in thousands) > > > 3. Research & Development (In hundreds) > > > 4. Medical Writing (In hundreds) > > > 5. Product Managers (In hundreds) > > > 6. Regulatory affairs (In hundreds) > > > 7. Correspondents & Trainers (In hundreds) > > > 8. Top level medical representatives (In thousands) > > > 9. Guest guest
Yes our Indian Pharmacist need to be globally competent. And Pharm D is a very good option for that. We need improvement and higher levels of learning. As simple as that.
