You are right in saying that it is the duty of the pharmacist to inform about the correct use of many OTC medicines which are used irrationally. We should also discourage the patient from using irrational fixed dose combinations. kunda. Because medicines are vital componatin every aspect of health. Now a days antibiotics, cough syrups, multivitamin s, OTC drugs are widely use irrationaly. Pharmacist have a role at least reduse this irrational use. This can be done in diffrent way. I thing mainly as a pharmacists we have to do patient education. While doing this we can informe to patient unsafe medicines. Some times patient forceing to give multivitamins. In this type of situation we must able to educate them how unsafe multivitamins. Other way is providing information about medicines. Some fixed dose combinations are providing unwanted sied effects. In this type of cases pharmacist should provied information about the product.Niranjan Udumalagala,Pharmacist,Department of Pharmacology,Faculty of Medicine,University Of Colombo,Sri Lanka.0094 11 2563051uniranjanlk Connect with friends all over the world.
