Guest guest
Dear All: Of late world bodies and international organizations like World Bank, WTO, UNO, IMF etc have come under public scanner because of the fears that their decision making is under pervasive influence of sometimes the corporate sector and sometimes the powerful states like US, UK etc. These states/corporates have been establishing their hagemony in drifting the policies of such bodies into their favour. Although these institutions are legally bound by principles towards promoting sustainable development and reducing poverty, they have repeatedly failed to contribute to socially just and environmentally sound development and, as many advocacy groups charge, have more often destroyed communities and devastated environments instead. There seems to be widespread skepticism about the efficacy and beneficence of such multilateral institutions. The contest is between the public whose needs and interests these institutions are supposed to reflect and protect and the corporations that have largely incapacitated governments and use our public institutions to increase sales of their products and maximize profits at the expense of communities, human rights and the environment. However going by the overall public perception, healthcare related institutions like USFDA and WHO have perhaps so far remained aloof from such kind of influence. Considering the WHO-IMPACT moves to change the definition of counterfeit drugs in such a manner as to favour the developed and curb the generics industry of the developing nations, it comes as a big shock and surprise to me that even organizations like WHO seem to have been bitten by the corporate bug. Dear Sir and esteemed members, please favour me with your experience about the past history of impartiality of WHO or otherwise so that I too get enlightened. WITH KIND REGARDS Dr. Geer M. They are laying the boobies and then want the generic supporting countries to walk over this mined field! Is this the egalitarian society our forefathers dreamt of? If the means adopted are impure, the end can not be pure.Dr Vijay Thawani>> Problem is that generic drugs that are similar either in look or colour > to some other generic or branded drug may be declared counterfeit as > per the new definition which is fraught with serious ramifications for > the generic trade.> Ishaq> Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy!
