Problem is that generic drugs that are similar either in look or colour

to some other generic or branded drug may be declared counterfeit as

per the new definition which is fraught with serious ramifications for

the generic trade.

Hi,

It is the creation of draconian law, by the economically powerful to

stuff thier own bellies, which aims to catch the marginalised

economies on wrong foot, which is sure to fall during the step,

leading to offence record, registration and penalisation.

They are laying the boobies and then want the generic supporting

countries to walk over this mined field!

Is this the egalitarian society our forefathers dreamt of?

If the means adopted are impure, the end can not be pure.

Hi,

Can we not have two classes?

1. Ingredients are correct as per pharmacopeia (no counterfeiting)

a) Problem only with faked labels

B) Problem with colour faking

c) problem with package faking

2. Ingredients incorrect (absolutely counterfeit)

In the first case, we can allow the companies to register with an authority and get a good copyright design. There are millions of computerised designs available which will not be repeated.

The second class are total counterfeits and should be banned.

Thanks Anupama,

This seems a good idea.

Thanks Dr Vijay, Dr Geer and Dr Anupama for keeping the discussion alive. I have learnt a lot from this exchange.

I hope the day is not far when we can completely do away with multitude of useless trade names for one drug and have generics only to prescribe. I guess big pharma realizes this imminent danger to their existence and is trying to nip it in the bud.
