The precautions I mentioned weren't really the result of worry, but more because some people on the list mentioned using antibacterial herbs or spreading raw honey on the meat as protection, and NT says to make sure to keep the fat for the small amounts of lauric acid to protect against bacteria. All in all, it seemed quite safe to me, and I eat raw milk and egg yolks all the time. Though, it did occur to me, when I started feeling sick, that there might be a connection. And then again, maybe it's one of those unconcious things. I just had a bowel movement, and it was mostly healthy, a little runny towards the end, but definitely not diarrhea, so so far I am betting it's _not_ food poisoning, which is a good thing, b/c I am looking forward to eating my next raw steak when it is ready next weekend Chris
Guest guest
I've NEVER had illness from raw meat. I've had food posoning from lentils and canteloupe before and if you had you'd know it. You would be violently ill (vomiting etc..). it sounds like it could be a seasonal adjustment to me. piimaman
Guest guest
I am not sure you can get a reliable answer from us because we know so little about you and your situation, and SO much is possible. Especially, since you are in a such a bad state of health, according to you. Also, the symptoms might be result of detox reaction. I would think food poisoning would be felt in your digestive track first. Not limited to it, for sure. I'd also vote for your worrying as a probable reason for your symptoms. Raw meat, fish, eggs, milk, etc. have been eaten for thousands of years. It's much safer than modern conventional thinking would dictate. It's interesting, b/c I read in " Prescription for Nutritional Healing " (Balch & Balch) that most food poisoning takes 2 weeks to manifest symptoms, but everyone I know who's gotten it had it the night they ate or the next day. I think I had an extremely mild case a few months ago. My hamburger smelled moderately strongly, after having it for five days or so, and it was kind of sticky, but I figured I'd use it anyway. I had a little gas slight feeling like I might get diarrghea, and it went away soon after. lol. thanks, chris
Guest guest
If your symptoms are related to the raw meat, I'd say it's more likely to be a mild detox. If my immune system was run down, I'd be sure to have a good dose of lacto-fermented something with a raw meat meal (preferably kefir), for a big shot of good bugs, as insurance. If you had food poisoning, chances are that you'd be praying to the porcelain god, moaning to please take you now and end the misery. I've had food poisoning twice, both times it came on very suddenly about 4 hours after eating, bad headache and a stomach in turmoil, cramping and vomiting for several hours, then went away just as suddenly. This was in my SAD days, and certainly not from raw meat. Different kinds of food poisoning have different symptoms, but what I described above is pretty typical for the run-of-the-mill case. Guest guest
i don't know if you've had food poisoning before. I have and it comes on like a freight train (not from raw food). There is no question about it. Violent vomiting and diarrhea frequently for at least 12 hours. Elaine
Guest guest
I would echo roman's post. Also keep in mind if you were truly suffering from " food poisoning " from the meat, it would be unlikely that you'd be sitting at your computer reading and posting a message board. You'd be quite uncomfortable and you'd likely be sitting in a different part of the house. Unless of course your computer is in your bathroom.
