Guest guest
>>>>I think I just want to move to Maine or Vermont, buy a big hunk of land, and start farming it. -------->one of the benefits of living here in maine, is that's it's relatively easy to eat traditional foods. The sale of raw milk is legal, and i have 3 different sources for raw milk within a 5-10 min. drive. i can get raw goat and cow's milk at a natural foods store a mile from my house. most farms pasture their animals in season, and we have, what i think is the largest organic gardeners and farmer's association in the country (or so i've heard). the biggest issue (for me at least), is finding good organic veggies in the winter. mostly, what's available is from CA. there's also lots of land - i think the state is about 80% forest land. however, i believe we also have the highest percent of people with asthma in the country, possibly from being downwind of midwestern industry (that's one of the theories anyways). so, come here to eat well, but breathe poorly Suze Fisher Lapdog Design, Inc. Maybe if I'm part of the remnant left over after the nuclear war we'll end up starting I can have my own revolution. :-P Chris ____ " What can one say of a soul, of a heart, filled with compassion? It is a heart which burns with love for every creature: for human beings, birds, and animals, for serpents and for demons. The thought of them and the sight of them make the tears of the saint flow. And this immense and intense compassion, which flows from the heart of the saints, makes them unable to bear the sight of the smallest, most insignificant wound in any creature. Thus they pray ceaselessly, with tears, even for animals, for enemies of the truth, and for those who do them wrong. Been without outgoing phone and computer since Monday. House fire next town over burnt through the fiberoptic cable shutting entire exchange down and we were among the last 50 to get service restored....of course. what people are referring to is Lake Hitchcock I think which covered most of New England 12,000 years ago after the glaciers that made the Connecticut River Valley melted then receded to the ocean. I've lived in one county here my entire life. Only over the last few years I've noticed mold and air allergies myself. We've had more near drought conditions in those years than I can remember prior. I lean more towards midwestern factory drift as cause than mold but there are times in spring and fall that mold is apparent. In Amherst you're on the floodplain for the CT. River. Hot summer days in Amherst I can tell there is something in the air but it doesn't give me the mold or pollen allergic feeling.
