Guest guest
Hello...I have not written i for a while! But now I have something to ask. We could be moving to Michigan in the near future and I was wondering if anyone is aware of the legalities of getting raw milk from a dairy farmer in Michigan...and is anyone familiar with central Michigan? We could be moving between Mount Pleasant, St Louis, Alma area. Thanks ahead of time a Augustine if you want to email me privately: pjaugustine@... Guest guest
ine, check out this link: http://www.housedems.com/preview.cfm?repID=22 & articleID=1914 Also, http://www.magma.ca/~ca/rawmilk/sale.htm These two links contradict each other in terms of buying milk from a farmer directly--the first article claims it it illegal and the second says " MI Raw milk may be purchased or delivered from a farm to an individual for his own use " From Realmilk.com: MI Michigan was the first state to pass mandatory pasteurization laws-the year was 1948-and has some of the strictest milk laws on the books. Farmers may not even sell raw milk from the farm. At recent hearings on the revision of the Michigan State Dairy Code, the industry attempted to amend the code to make it illegal for family members and workers on dairy farms to even drink raw milk. This plan was fortunately dropped, due to the efforts of dairy farmer Chuck Oliver and members of the local chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation. Although legislation dealing with cow-share programs was not specifically included in the new dairy regulations, some believe that the regs can be interpreted to allow them, and Oliver has informed the State of Michigan that he is going ahead with such a program. Working with Wesala of the Detroit chapter who hosted a meeting on raw milk that attracted almost 50 people, a lively cow-share program has been initiated, with Oliver getting 2-3 calls per week from new families wanting to sign up. For further information, contact at (248) 828-8494. Good luck!
Guest guest
Hi a, I live in Roscommon, Michigan. Mt. Pleasant is about an hour and 10 to 30 mins. south of me. I haven't had any luck finding raw milk in my area, but you may want to contact Green Tree Grocery in Mt. Pleasant (989) 772-3221. Someone there may know of a local farmer in that area that will sell you raw milk. I also just received a side of grass-fed beef from Olivet (near Lansing). They deliver free as far as Dewitt and than it's .30 per mile after that. It was under $45.00 for them to deliver to my door and I'm about 3 1/2 hours north of them. For you it would be minimal. You can find their farm on eatwild.com it's called Oak Moon Farm and we have been very pleased with the quality of the meat and the service. I hope this helps! Guest guest
Hi a, Tried to answer you before but had trouble 'posting' and finally found time now that the Holidays are over to get it straightened out. Many of us belong to a 'cow share' dairy that is near Lapeer MI. You purchase your 'share' of a cow and then pay a small fee to the farmer every week to take care of 'your cow'. Then you go to the dairy every 7 to 10 days to get milk. The milk is wonderful. The cows are well taken care of and frequently tested. You will see them out in the pastures most of the time, just where they belong. If you need more information write back to me. Diane > Hello...I have not written i for a while!
